I am about to buy a vise. I have to mount it in my garrage and I have a space problem. I have two options:
1. A 100lbs blacksmith vise that I put on the concrete floor than attach to the wall directly. When I need a horizontal grip, I can put a small vise (that I already have) in the blacksmith vise. :)
2. A 10lbs (or less) vise that works from 0° to 90°, mounted on a one foot large workbench (I have 1 1/4 ' to put my vise, bench, etc.. and keep enough space to enter the car when not working ;) )

The price for the two solutions is pretty much the same. Could you please give me your opinion on which one to go for? Here are the two "beasts". I'll add the pics, "borrowed" from the net.

The post vise or "blacksmith" vise is more versatile, and a better vise all the way around.

What Craig said, especially since you have a smaller vise that you can put in the large one for horizontal use.

I did that for years before I mounted a carpenters vise on the end of my workbench for a dedicated horizontal vise. :)

Thank you guys! I'll go for a large one. When I get it mounted I'll make a picture to brag about it ;)

Ohhhhhhhh that kind of vise I was going to suggest Gluttony it's always been a big favorite of mine. ;)

Those post vices are alot harder to find too, there will always be another adjustable vice in the store or on e-bay, but if you decided to get a post vice later you'd need a good helping of luck to get one without paying an arm and a leg.
