I posted this thread over in te Buck forum as well, but I would very much like to know your opinion too because they both are expensive knives over here.

Companion 45 euros
055 costs 65 euros (about 10 euros less than a full size Buck 110)

Here it goes(thanks very much for reading)::thumbup:

Greetings you all.

My son is planning to give me a knife for father's day and I'm dubbing between the 55 or Companion.
I like the single bladed traditionals the most, but the 55 is a good 20 euro's more expensive over here than the Companion.

Since my son is spending his own money I would really like to know what is the better knife of the 2 in terms of sturdyness fit and finish. I like both knives and I wouldn't mind having either of them.

It would be a disappointment for the both of us if I would get a knife with play or terribly off centred blades.

Living in the Netherlands it's no option to send the knife back to Buck.

So I really hope you can and will help me out on this.

Thanks very much for reading.

I only have a 55, but it is a great, underrated knife. One of my favorite users by far.

The question I would have, is the 55 legal in your neighborhood? I don't know the law on locking blades in the Netherlands. If there is no question of legality, then there's no question the 55 is a larger more capable knife. The 110's 112's and 55's seem to be made by the upper tier of workers since it is so rare to see a defect in that line of knives from Buck. Maybe being the flagship of the line has something to do with it.

If your taste runs to single blade knives, then go for it. Hey, it's what you like. Why drink scotch if your taste runs to bourbon?

Carl.

I owned a 55 for a while, I enjoyed it as a front pocket carry.
Extremely thing, but very sturdy and ready for work. I didn't like it's extreme clip blade, a little too pointed for some chores.

I did up a few squirrels with it and it was a great knife to have. I ended up giving it to one of my cousins.

Do you often use a small pen blade? If so, the Companion might be more useful for you. It's going to be a lot like your peanut in terms of what it can do.

The 55 will be more like your Vic Solo - indestructible and thin, except pointier and locking.
