Hi,

I'm looking after a plain edge Salsa titanium and it is hard to find. Should I keep looking, get the combo edge Salsa or get the CF Military in BG42? I'm worried that the Military is a big knife for EDC, and that I won't be able to sharpen the combo edge if I get the other Salsa ... please give me your opinion. :)

If you have a sharpmaker, sharpening CE and SE are jsut as easy as PE.

I think the CF Millie is a much better knife all around, and it is thin and light, and easy to EDC despite being so long. Right now, you can get one at Savsonswordsandknives.com for $160 something with free shipping and a free Delica 4.

The screaming wildman is right on track in my opinion. I have a whole bowl full of Salsas. They are neat knives, but are short and wide. If you carry them using the clipit, they take up a lot of pocket width. This makes it difficult to reach around it and get something else from the pocket. If you carried it loose in the pocket, no big deal.

Get the Millie while you can...then later that pesky Ti will show up. :D

Technically you’re pushing me to buy both, the Millie first. You have no mercy for my pocket :D
If someone has a good (or big, or both) pic of the BG-CF Millie I'd appreciate it. The pics I saw so far were quite small :)

From an investment standpoint they are both great knives to place in your long term collection. However I can most assuredly recommend the BG-42 Carbon Fiber Military model. Two years from now it will acrue much more value than the Ti Salsa. Although I can't be 100% certain of that I think there is a 95% chance that I am right.

The Ti Salsa is going to be quite a collectible in it's own rite but it will take a lot of time before anyone will take it very seriously. There were quite a few of them made but most of them got used which will make the collectible ones catapult in value over time.

The CF Military is where I would place my bet for the long term.

I know it is personal preference, and I may catch some flak over it, but the CE Salsa I have just gathers dust. I carried it for a short while and didn't care for it. The serrations took up the portion of the blade I use most on a PE knife, leaving only an inch of plain edge at an awkward angle for most tasks. It worked OK for some things, but I always found the serrations getting in my way. Others will disagree, but I don't think the Salsa has enough blade to get a useful amount of both edge types.
I also found it interesting that when I blew the dust off the Salsa and set it on top of the BGCF Military, the Salsa is just as wide, although half the length. It would be more sheeple friendly than the Military, and legal in more places if that is a concern.
A lot depends on whether you are a knife user or a collector. I doubt any of mine will be considered collector material until everyone carries a lightsaber, and steel blades are museum pieces.

It's going to be an user and it will go straigth into the EDC rotation. I never carried a 4" blade but I'm starting to consider it given the light weigth of the knife. The Salsa is definitely sheeple friendly, the Military not quite so ;)

Edited to add: I should stop browsing the Spyderco models. Another one just joined the list of knives I must try: the "mini" Manix

I can't vote but I recommend CF Military.

 The Mini-Manix is a great knife, especially if you are in the market for a tank. It weighs more than the BGCF Military, with an inch less cutting edge, and is built very stout, but it is even wider when closed than the Salsa or Military. :D

Thanks for the pics huugh, seing the knife in hand helps ! It's official now, I like it

Another vote here for the CF Millitary. Have a regular Military and its weight to size ratio is awesome.
Never handled a TI salsa but looks like a sturdy cutter. Probably wouldnt draw too many glances whereas the Millie definitely will.
If you can carry the Millie without it being a distraction I'd go with it in a heartbeat... easy to maintain as well.

You'll love it. I recently said this in another post, but I'll say it again here: The CFBG42 Milie has got to be one the best sub 4 ounce folders you'll ever carry. Large, yet disappears in my back pocket.

I was on the fence on a manix and military, and was fortunate enough to handle a manix in a recent passaround. It was a touch too heavy, and I definitely knew I was carrying the knife. So, I decided to bite on the milie and I'm glad I did. You will not regret getting one of these knives.

Andy

**EDIT** My milie weighs in a 109 grams after removing the clip (I carry my milie without a clip). Not sure what the weight is with the clip.

Sweet I voted for waiting for the PE salsa to show up but I am really impressed with my CF Mili. It is an amazing slicer, and comfy!!! Good choice.

I guess ordering the BG42 CF Millie produced a perturbation in the FORCE or something :D
I found the plain edge TI Salsa too ... me poor wallet :p
Can't wait to get them now the wait has begun!

Still waiting for the Millie ... (I grouped the shipping with a custom I'm waiting on) but the Ti Salsa is here! Yeah baby!

oops, I was gonna say skip the Salsa, the two Ti salsas I had developed unfixable blade play.

I have both a Salsa and a Military, and I personally would much, much rather have a CF/BG42 Military than any Salsa, no matter how tarted up it is. I managed to chip the edge on my Salsa cutting cardboard:eek: I wouldn't have believed it if it hadn't happened to me personally. The blade is ground so thin it's just not all that tough IMO. I'm also no longer a fan of aluminum handles. There are a few things about the Salsa that I like: the "Cobra Hood" is a nice feature that I wish would be used on more models. It can even be used like a Wave if you finesse it a bit. The compression lock on mine works very well and it's significant because I think the Salsa was the first model with the compression lock.

On the other hand, the Military is a superb knife. I'd really like a CF/BG42 Millie, but I already have an S30V model, and can't justify laying out the cash when there are so many other knives I want. The CF/BG42 Millie is definitely going to be a collectors item (if you care about that). I don't think I've ever read a post from anyone raving about the Salsa.

There's almost no contest IMO, I'd get the Millie.

(EDIT) I just read through the thread and it looks like you already ordered both. That's always a good choice! Now I feel dumb (not at all unusual) for not reading through the thread before running my big mouth- er... keyboard.
