Never posted in the Becker section! Im not here to get beat in or anything lol :foot:

Im looking for a 2 blade "combo."
Meaning, Im looking for 1 to belt carry or MOLLE "war belt" carry (#1). The other, the do all camp/batoning/survival knife (#2).
(Sheaths are not considered, and are of no concern in this situation....we are strictly talking knives)

I have tried a few already;
Small beckers, and eskabars are too small. Im thinking minimum 4" blade for #1.
I EDC blades, and a LM Wave already...so im not looking for EDC stuff here.

BK2- Too big and fat for #1, and too short for #2. Tank of a knife, that is very capable...its just too belt to be my "small" knife. (#1)
BK9- Too long, and thin for #2. Love the BK9, its like a sword. I just think it may be a little too long for my PSK.
BK5- Too thin for #2, and I dont think I need the choil if my #1 is capable of small task'. I think the length is right for my #2. Really wanted to like this one, but im just more a fan of the BK9 "straight" blade shape....although I like the FFG.

So, its going to get expensive trying them all! Looking for some input;

For my #1; Is there an option that is bigger than the little beckers, but still arent real long (OAL)? Maybe something that is longer in the blade than the grip, keeping it short for war belt carry? (BK16 or 17?)
For my #2; Is there an option that is 1/4" thick, FFG and shorter than the BK9? (Still like something fairly long for batoning) Or is the BK7 what im after?

Im sure there is more im missing, but its a start! thanks guys :thumbup:

Welcome to the Becker forum, glad you popped in.

I would say, BK16 for #1 and a BK7 for #2. Its not 1/4" thick, but its pretty damn handy anyways.

Have to disagree with Moose and Worldwood.
Personally I would go with the 7 and the 15!

I'd go with the BK17 and BK7 for the larger blade. I've batoned and done plenty of camp chores with the BK7 and it'll tackle what you need it to. I actually prefer the BK9 for this and while you are thinking it's too big, you may want to handle one. It's quite a nimble and capable knife and you forget how large it is until you realize all the work it's done for you.

I'd take the 17 over the 16 or 15 for your situation, because the grind leaves a nice thick spine area on the blade for you. Seems like the size is important and the 15 and 16 might feel a little thin to you.

My main 2 knives are the BK15 and the BK4. That's what I like for what you describe, although the 15 might be a bit too long and thin, in which case make it a 16.

1/4" is nice to have but 3/16ths is plenty thick. A lot of very popular large outdoor knives are 3/16ths; BK4, BK7, BK9, KB Heavy line, RTAK II, Junglas to name a few and even with people pounding them through wood you don't hear about many breaking.

I think what you're after is a BK7 and a tweener as previously mentioned.

The bk3 is a 1/4 inch with 7 inch blade. but it is chisel ground and has some serrations. but it is shorter than the 9 and still .25'' thick

Id still suggest the 7 and 16

I have used the bk3 for batoning and even though it wasnt designed really as a woods knife it did work very well. i own an ontario sp8 which is similar to the bk3 but without the serrations or paracord cutter, and is more designed for a woods knife, the sp8 is .25" thick but has a 10'' long blade so its not what ur looking for but it is a batoning fool.

Since you grabbed the 7 already, I would definitely suggest the 14 to go along with it. While I absolutely LOVE my 16, and my 15 is growing on me, the BK14 is on my side everyday, and is just about as capable at most tasks as the 16 but in a more compact package. The 14 would really compliment the 7! Just think about he numbers you ordered the 7 but want x2 knives = the 14, coincidence, I think not! (Cheesy I know, but it works....)

I may be a little late, and it might not exactly match your specs, but I prefer the BK 4 BK 16 combo. Not much I cant do with this pair.

+ 1 on the bk7 and the bk14 that's my set up I can carry both on the same sheath or carry the 14 in its own sheath when I don't need the 7

I'm going to say Bk16. I have a Bk11, and don't find myself using it all that often, simply because I find the thing too small. It might be better with handle scales, but I'd rather go with the BK16.

Good luck :).
