Please Help Me Decide

I have narrowed my choices for a first traditional Khukuri down to the HI WWII 16.5 and the British Army Service Model. Could someone please help me understand the difference between the two and make a recommendation. I will be using the Khukuri for camping/backpacking and just general enjoying owning one.

Thank you in advance for your help.

The BAS will probably be a tad lighter and a bit pointier. The WWII will probably balance just a little bit better in hand since the handle is generally longer.

Personally, for a back pack khuk, I prefer the WWII, but both are fantastic first khuks:)

Oh, and welcome to the forums:D

I also prefer the WWII to the BAS. Not sure why exactly, but the BAS seems lighter and didn't chop as good as my WWII. The WWII is my all purpose go to user.

It just depends on what you're going to be doing more. Chopping or cutting. Both will perform very well, it's just that if you will chop more than cut - go with the WWII.

Ditto

Personally, I prefer the BAS on backpacking trips, I like the weight, and it multi tasks enough for me. I do light work backpacking, nothing that is actually in the "brush".

Based on the ones I've seen, for a given length the WWII tends to have a thicker spine, and as mentioned above, a longer handle. For general camping and backpacking they are probably functionally equivalent, so I would go with whichever one appeals to you more at a visual level.

Between those two models I personally prefer the WWII. It has a more interesting shape. But that's just me. I'm sure some people like the BAS better for the same reason.

Perhaps more important is to get one that's not too heavy, if you're going to carry it long distances. There can be quite a variation in weight even in the same model and same length, since these blades are hand-made with traditional tools.
