I just received a small sebenza I bought from the exchange (Thank You Tom), it was made Sept. 1995 and in new condition. The dimensions are a little different from the newer offerings and the blade profile is beautiful. It feels soooo good in my hand and I want to made it my EDC but am having such a hard time taking a new 1995 small sebenza and making it my EDC, it seems too rare to use. The Package I received, looks like it was shipped in 1995 and I just received it. I guess my question is would you guys take a rare knife in new condition and make it your EDC.

I think I would put the '95 model in the safe and carry its younger brother. Great pics.

Great knives.
I'd use the newer.
Thanks heavens I don't have to decide, would take a whole week. LOL

The beautiful thing about CRK's are that they are meant to be admired AND used. I would use it and know you can always send it to the CRK spa to be "refreshed".

The original style small Sebenza you have has a much better chance of escalating in value if kept in mint condition than the newer one, especially with the correct paperwork. If that isn't important to you, then use it of course. I will caution you that CR doesn't stock vintage parts such as thumbstuds, so a complete refurbish job will replace original parts with newer versions (thumbstuds, washers, finishes, etc.). If it were my knife, I'd like to see the original hand-filed thumbstuds and hand-rubbed satin blade finish be preserved - they're gone forever from the Sebenza line.

You've really gotten a wonderful knife there. That one was tough to pass up when it came up for sale. Congrats.

Thanks guys for your input and Thank You DallasSTB for the historical significance of how the parts were made. As much as it kills me to just fondle and not use it, preserving Chris Reeve Knives legacy takes first position.

I know exactly how you feel. Carry or hold, carry or hold. Tough call when they are such awesome knives.

Absolute stunning and I believe you wrote somewhere that the 90s graphics were done by the man himself. Oh DallasSTB what have you done, now you've got me looking at my large P sebenza with one eye. I picked it up at a knife show in NY back in the mid 90s from the man himself and don't see to many like it. I'll post some pictures of the knife but my question to you is how rare are the BB ones with a polished edge. The knife is used but exactly as Mr Chris Reeve sold it to me.

Now that is interesting. I haven't seen any bead blasted CR blades before. All of the original Sebenzas I've seen have hand-rubbed satin flats and polished hollows. The plain ones are typically less polished than the decorated knives, but I thought that the early Regulars were the first blades that had any different finishes (tumbled). You might email Anne Reeve and ask about this model. From the looks of it, I'd date it 1993-94 timeframe. Also remember that, being a low production shop, CR often makes small changes and experiments in the middle of the production run that may or may not turn out to be long term changes. The thumbstuds changed slightly in '98, the clips changed in 2000, the blade jimping changed in 2004 for a brief period, etc., etc.. This may have been a short lived experiment in which only a few pieces were produced. All in all, a very cool and probably a very rare specimen. Cool.

Edit - I almost forgot your other question about early decorated Sebenzas. According to Anne, prior to Scott Cook and Lisa L’Eveque-Hague coming on board sometime in late 1997 or 1998, Chris did all of the decorating himself.

Hey DallasSTB, I'm going to start a thread asking if anyone else has one of these. Can you please send me a PM with Anne Reeve email, thanks.

Don't edc a rare knife, not worth it, it will be a great collectors item soon, a '95 pretty much is, those are really hard to get a hold of

I'll make you a deal.....I have a 1994 small P seb with a pocket clip, not many of those either. How about we ship each other the knives, use them for a month, then ship them back. I'm in the same boat as you....I really would love to carry and use it, but just can't......yet. I can say that I finally broke down and cleaned/lubed and removed the lanyard on my NICA tanto. Still have yet to carry it yet....:o

lol That is awesome, you do my bitch and I'll do yours and will both be happy. That is so funny, didn't they make a movie like that, where two guys meet on a train and then conspire to murder the each others wife. I feel like, even though I want to use the older sebenzas I also want to preserve them for future Chris Reeve Knives Historical Referance. In other words for other people of like mind to enjoy. Do you have the small or the large NICA and is it the 1 of 200 or the one that says 400? Can you post pictures, I would love to see them.

I need to upgrade my membership to post pics. I'll get some up later this weekend. Stay tuned... I've decided I think I'm going to carry and enjoy my rare ones on holidays and such. My biggest concern is not the wear, but the chance of losing one of them.

Like many of you guys, I have had a hard time using certain CRK. Some I figured I would never use and sold off to fund more crk or some xm's. I regret nearly every crk I ever sold. Am slowly building up my collection.

Anyways, I am at the point where I just use them. When I am gone, they will be sold at a yardsale for a few bucks most likely or divided up amongst family..... I bought them, I collected and admired them, I might as well use and enjoy them while I am here to do so !!!
