Please help me find a blade

Hi All,

I'm reasonably new to the "good blade" community. I've carried a SOG X-ray in my pocket 24/7 for a long time, but am looking for a fixed blade to compliment my Springfield Operator TRP.

I am looking for a steel only (No handle material) that preferably comes wrapped in black cord from the dealer (If not, anyone know someone who does this?). I would like it to come with a kydex sheath for my belt, be reasonably sized (But not hang down to my knees), no serrations, and an overall solid build. And if someone knows of one that already has a sheath made for it somewhere that i can order that allows it to hang under your shirt from your neck that would be great too.

Price is not a HUGE issue, but I'm certainly not looking for something overly extravagant as this will become by beat-er-up all day everyday knife, maybe 300 max?

Thanks in advance for the help! If anyone can do it I'm sure you all can.

Welcome to the forums:). On the higher end of your budget, Strider knives seems to fit your description nicely. At about a third of the cost of the Striders, you can go with some Fallknivens that come without the handle material and wrap them yourself. A good option might also be a Busse Skeleton Warden.

You guys are quick!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm looking in to all these options. Please keep the suggestions rolling.

That American Kami are pretty cool looking. I presume on the other side of all those sheaths is a slot to accept a belt, or are they only designed to hang?

Howdy and Welcome!
Might I suggest a Buck Mayo Kaala Knife
http://www.newgraham.com/detail.aspx?ID=7766

Features a 3.13 in. blade of Paul Bos heat treatedS30V steel, and a 3.21 in. S30V handle. Comes with a molded black nylon sheath with bead chain.

No wrap on the handle, but it is easy enough to do.

Gazz98, that knife is gorgeous! Was the member just making a few of these or does he accept orders?

Rich, thanks for the additional info on Stider, i'm definately looking into them but I just can't get over that funky striping.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Shooterpunk, those Kami's are pretty sick looking aren't they?!

Does anyone have any additional information on their quality. I know NOTHING about steel quality ect.

I am leaning towards the American Kami Kiridashi. Does anyone have any comments on the "Chiseled on one side, completely flat on the other" thing? I've never seen that before and am just curious as to what everyone thinks of it as a daily utility knife. I love the "WOW!" factor i get when i look at it but would like to make sure it'll fill the role i'm looking for.

Thanks again guys, you're a very welcoming community

Well he uses 1095, which is a very good carbon steel. Holds an edge well and is esy to re-sharpen. It does rust though, so you have to oil it. I really think I might order on of his knives, I absolutely love his designs!

I think I'm probably going to get one of those then. When you say oil it is there a special "Knife oil" or are you referring to some of the stuff i've read about soaking your knives in Olive Oil for 24 hours before starting to use it and every couple of months after that?

Thanks

Holy 5 month waiting time batman!

I think i'll be ordering one of these, but will probably order something else "for the meantime"

Strider MT/Mod10
Strider WB/Mod10.

The blades are 5.5 inches measured from the tip to the front of the guard.

Rich, I like both of those, I'll have to look in to them.

Anyone know if you can get Strider to make you a blade without that umm...."unique" black striping?

Cheers
