I really want to get a knife for my Dad. We've searched all of bladeart.com, and we cant find a knife that he likes. I wanted to get him a Mnandi, but he said that he'd feel guilty about accepting and using a knife that costed more than $150.00(but he really liked the design of the Mnandi!) He likes the more traditional style pocketknives. He likes stag and wood handles too. If you can think of a pocketknife that has a blade under 3.5 inches, and a wood or stag handle, please tell me the name of the maker/company and the name of the model.

P.S. No Case knives please!

Thanks for your help!

Buck has a few models that fit your description. I can't give the model numbers off the top of my head. You might want to check out A.G. Russell, too.

I find that you get the best quality in a traditional folder by sticking with the German made knives with carbon steel blades. A German Boker, Carl Schlieper Eye Brand, Hen & rooster, etc are all fine knives for the money. My experience is that the German knives have consistently good quality blades that will take a keen edge and hold it well. I have a brand new German Boker copperhead in my pocket now that I bought yesterday. I sharpened it light and commenced to peel tomatoes with it! Now that takes a sharp knife! $25.00 at a knife show. Also could have gotten a full size Eye brand stockman or trapper with STAG scales for $40.00 Very good values.

I'm going to guess that you Dad and I are "about" the same age( I've raised 4 boys now) so suggest you
take a trip to the A.G. Russell web site with your Dad. I always find something to like there. Really
poke around while there as a lot of A.G.'s knives are not on the "main" pages. It's also a first rate place
to buy. (no offence ,Spark) Good luck !!

I don't want to get a Case knife because I want to get a knife with a lock, and I was also hoping to get a knife that is either a custom, or a knife that is a little closer to custom quality than Case. I'm not trying to say that Case knives are POS knives I just want something a better. Just because my Dad says he doesn't want me to pay more that 150, doesn't mean I won't. I want my dad to have a knife that he can use for the rest of his life, he's had a few Case knives, but I just wanted to get him something special. I'm willing to spend up to $350.00.

How about Bailey Bradshaw's Whitewing knives? Stag and 3V. Very nice and right about your price range.

I find it interesting that you are willing to spend $350 for a knife for your Dad but you are unable to get yourself a Sebbie because you won't have the cash until 2003. Just curious.

Heh, I've run into that problem. Should I get my uncle a knife, or get me one? Should I get my dad a knife, or get me one? Should I buy that sebbie or put it towards a car? Should I purchase that custom or put that little bit towards an apartment or house of my own? Most often I'm driven to give to someone else. That puts a cramp in what I want, and I won't pretend to be a nice and generous person.
