Please help me ID this dagger?

It looks like an Applegate/Fairbairn Dagger to me, but that's just a wild guess, since I can't see the picture that you linked to either.:D.

I think the wood is in great condition if its from WWII.

The blade style very much like a bayonet, with full edge on bottom, and a false edge which takes up about half the blade length , on top.

And Esav, thanks, I put it on Mr Levins forum.

It is a German "nahkampfmesser" (close-combat knife) from the Second World War. It sounds like it is stamped with the eagle 5 mark which is a Luftwaffe inspection mark. The knife was most likely carried by a German paratrooper which makes it a pretty nice war souvernir.

I bought one in 1998 for $175 Canadian. The spring clip scabbard is pretty cool-once it is fastened to the boot it is very difficult to remove. German soldiers would also wear it clipped between the buttonholes on their tunics.

The knife is in great shape and it is definitely the eagle 5 Luftwaffe mark in one of the photos. I didn't have time to look at all your photos earlier as I had to get some groceries 15 minutes before the store closed.

Here is a couple of repros, the statement above that it is a Nahkampfmesser apears to be correct.

"Finally, a decent copy of the Nahkampfmesser! Two styles to choose from. Much better quality steel than the copies in the past, you can cut yourself with these, and they have a correct handle design with 3 rivits. The scabards are specific to the knife shown, the single clip to the knife w/o hilt. Made in China, but very sufficent for display or reenacting. FHQ can mute the import mark with our stamp. The best part is the price. $50 each or buy the set of $90!".

From what I have gathered in my short research, "Nahkampfmesser"
has more than one meaning.
"Counterstrike" being one of them.
It appears there are not that many left these days.
You may have something that has some reasonable value.
You might want to seek out some collectors, who would also be able to give you some info on the knife, and could give you some offers as well.
Good luck

Looks a lot like a bayonet, or maybe we should call it a trench knife. If no one on the Levine forum gets it right away, be patient. Sometimes these things take looking at for a while, when they aren't a standard brand.
