Hello

I inherited this axe. It has a partial label of Woodsmaster on it so that might be the brand. I am curious of the clacker device on it. Whats it for, how does it work, etc.

It is a very unique axe and none of the forestry agents in my area ever saw one, so any help would be great!!!

Here is a pic

Here is another facing the edge, you can see the clacker devices on the side

Thank you for looking and any help would be great.
Thanks:)

maybe they are designed to stop the blade/edge from penetrating beyond that point for some strange reason

It is a splitter. Google chopper 1 and you'll find more about the concept. I think a silly gimmick, but if you search the web you will find those who like it.

They're probably for aiding in splitting in my opinion. When you use the side w/o the device it will split through the wood and then those devices will widen the fissure you put in the wood.

Yes they were to aid in spliting wood I have never seen a double bit one before. I have only seen single bit ones.

I have only ever seen one of those before. One side is for chopping and one is a splitter just like the "Chopper One". I don't know how well they work but it's a neat concept and a rare find.
