My friend found this knife today and I'm trying to figure out what it is.

I used the flipper to open it and was surprised to find out that it was assisted!
There is no writing anywhere on it but on the blade it says "440 stainless". The "thumbstud" is really a circular piece of metal that is screwed onto the spine. The "gut hook" seems like a terrible idea as the point sticks out when the knife is closed. About a 4 inch blade that is partially serrated. Probably a piece of junk but I'm just curious, thanks in advance.

You're welcome in advance.

Yes, you got it right with the first bit of that statement... Any ID of manufacturer, date of production, or area of distribution will be nigh on impossible, since it's one of those designs that was at one point in time pumped out of a factory in China and has been long forgotten now.

That being said, for some, it'll work just dandy. It has everything a knife should: that being a blade and a handle. Sure, the blade steel is not great and the design is a little inconvenient, but it's a knife, and it's better than nothing in most circumstances.

Hope this helps.

my friend has that exact same knife. He got it for free, and it is just junk. The thumbstud is almost impossible to use on his, but the assisted opening is surprisingly strong. And yes, the guthook is pretty dangerous.

Ya the thumbstud is tricky, but doable. Opening it using the flipper works great, it reminds me of a huge deadly Kershaw Leek, lol.

That knife is identical to a knife I bought at a gas station here in Northern California in 2002, except mine is not assisted opening. Blade shape, serrations, handle type, all appear the same. There is no mfr. name, but the box said 'Fury' or 'Mustang', or something like that, IIRC. It's basically a cheap import, good for, well, not much. Mine sharpens to a razor edge, but is dull literally after 2-3 uses.

thx - cpr
