Take a look at this HI experts. I believe I know what this is but I want to confirm.

It's 18.5 inches long and weighs 38oz. Looks like it was made by Old Sher (rising sun).

I picked it up used yesterday.

I think I remember these coming down the line some time ago. I always liked the clean ring-less lines.
Looks Sher to me, looks to be made after Uncle Bill passed as I believe that was around the time that the kamis started "signing" their work in Devanagari. The "sun" with 4 sets of two lines radiating out of it also makes it certainly newer than "Old Shop".

At a guess, it's maybe 2 or 3 years old? Maybe newer. Maybe older. I've been here a long time, so time is starting to meld together a bit:D

Certainly an HI piece though:) Excellent score. I would love to see more of these.

It does have the Uncle Bill mark on the right side of the blade but nothing else on that side. Really thick spine 17/32 at the widest, 1/2 inch almost 3/4 the way out to the tip.

My spelling could be way off, but I believe it's a Kancha kami model khukuri. IIRC, it was based on a model that this kami, a family friend, made years ago. I can't comment on who made this one (other than HI), but it appears quite old with the non-habaki bolster and I've only seen these in the archives. Take care.

I thought it had to have a pretty thick spine for the weight you listed. The UB on the side puts it at 2005 or newer for sure. The kamis didn't start marking them in such a way until after Uncle Bill passed away.

I agree on the model. Best I can tell it's a Kanchi Kami replica (AKA) Sherpa Kukri. I just wasn't sure if they came in a size this large. It's a stick type tang but it is welded to the rear bolster in three spots.

You guys sure know your Khukuris :) Nice blade, is there any good places to buy used HI Khukuris?

Tough to find them used but they pop up for sale here in the marketplace. Many times it's better (even cheaper) to buy them new when Yangdu puts them on DOTD. However some older models (or retired Kamis) are no longer available and they only way to buy them is on the used market.
