Hi everyone.
I am in New Zealand, and have relations staying here with us from the U.K.

I would like to gift a knife to one of the guys here, and I know the U.K has had a crack down on knife laws....will he get any grief with putting a Tradional folding knife ( slippie - non Lockback, and of course single edged blades ) into his suitcase luggage and NOT his hand luggage?
Will Customs on the U.K side hassle him? I know New Zealand will be fine with it, even if they see it and inspect it - it will be within their criteria of allowance, whats the story with entering the U.K? ..could you help me out here please.
I used to buy many knives FROM the U.K but the opposite as in having them going INTO the U.K is a different story.
Thanks very much for you time helping me out here everyone.
Duncan.

Mere ownership and importation of knives is not really restricted in the UK (or many other countries) unless the knife is a specific type designed for use as an offensive weapon. This includes things such as switchblades and the now-largely-extinct ballistic knives, and to a lesser extent, swords. A slipjoint folder of any size should have no problems being taken in by checked luggage. The only thing he needs to worry about is carrying it around in public in his pocket. In that case, UK law states that non-locking slipjoint folders may be carried if the blade is 3 inches long or less.

Thank you very much guys, you have confirmed our thoughts, but we did want to make sure just to put minds at rest.
Once again our thanks to you.
