I've only have a 530 and a 940. Out of those two I would advise the 940. The 530 is super thin in the pocket, but the thumb studs are narrow and the blade is light. So it doesn't flick well for me. The 940 has easy to reach thumb studs and a longer blade which makes it the easiest flicking knife I own. The 943 is the same knife with a different blade shape.

Another vote for the 940. The Emissary is nice but I didn't like the assisted opening on the one I had. The 940 opens so fast with a thumb flick you'll think it's assisted.

Out of those 4, go for the 940 or 940-1. Plenty of them on the secondary market, so you don't have to pay the MAP.

I tend to lean towards manuals but like Hoosier said you'll think the 940 is assisted because it just flies out that fast and smooth.

940 gets the my vote as well.

Without any hesitations go for a 940
My first BM was a 943 black (yes I like the ninja thing with black blades :) ) and I have been fully convinced by the Osborne design
I am now waiting for a 940-1

The Pardue was also appealing to be but at the end I think the Osborne has been a good choice for me

I noticed this thread too late and I am so glad to see you chose wisely! The only problem with buying a 940 as your first Benchmade is you've now set the bar really high for future BM purchases. Great knife! Well done Notrega.

I love my 530 because it is so thin and opens lightning fast.
I'm still trying to hunt down the REI exclusive Cf version.
