I know it's tough, but here's my situation ;) I have approx. $700-$800 saved up and I want a new knife. Here are my preferences, most of which probably fall into the "gents knife" category.

- Lightweight (no more than 2.5 - 3 ounces)
- Sheeple friendly for office environment
- Blade no longer than 3"
- Steel is of secondary concern, since it will get relatively light use
- I would prefer a knife with a pocket clip, but willing to consider knives without one
- I like engraving, pearl, most wood scales, carbon fiber, etc.
- Fit and finish must be excellent
- Tip down preference
- Nothing "tactical" (whatever that means!)
- I have no patience to wait for a custom knife (sad but true)

So, what are your recommendations? Thanks for the help!

If Ihad that kind of cash dedicated to a small folder,I'd be looking at P.J.Tomes' slipjionts,or small locking folder. He also has a double lock,if you order one,you could get a real nice production foler in the mean time ,to 'hold you over'.

William Henry knives may have something you like.

With that kind of cash, you may want to look at knifeart.com. They've plenty of choices for a knife near your description for around the 300.00 mark. They are customs, but these are already made and ready for shipping.

Many customs are available to buy without a wait.
Here's just one example:
(tip-down, 2.6 oz., etc, etc, $600):

That one's from Bladegallery.com ( $500 - $1000 category):

Here's another, with that mother of pearl you like ($525):

Chris Reeve Mnandi. There are some beautiful wood inlay options

Exactly what I was going to recommend!! Or look at some custom makers and have something made for you.

How about Kirby Lambert? I was going to suggest some other models, but his knives sell out very quickly.

Check out Bladegallery.com: lots of great knives there.
TrueNorthKnives.com (Lambert knives in stock)
KnifeArt.com (Lambert knives in stock)

This model from Kirby is in stock at ArizonaCustomKnives.com

I have handled his blades and they are superb.

Thanks for all the suggestions, folks! I'll mull them over and see where I land. Pocketknife: That pearl with the blued bolsters is very tempting.

Yes, it does look very classy, doesn't it?! :)

The only thing with mother of pearl is that, being shell, it's more brittle than some other materials. You'd have to be careful with it. I have a few dozen older knives, and most of the mother of pearl ones have a crack or two in them.
