Please help me with age, info or anything else you can, KNIFE 2

This one IS an early version, late 1942 to early 1943 because of the red spacers and the obvious round, peened tang. These pommels are 3/8" thick. The next version was no red spacers, and a RECTANGULAR, peened pommel attachment, and also 3/8" thick. The follow-on versions came with 1/4" thick pommels that were pinned on from the sides of the pommels, either with the pin showing all the way through or only on one side.

Actually that's a 1/4" pommel in the picture. Early on both thick and thin pommels were peened to the tang.

Thanks, sactroop. I was unaware (obviously) that they came in a "thin and round" version. Dang it. Now there's another variation I have to find. :D Someday I'm gonna find a copy of Cole's.

I probably should point out to others that are viewing that page, that this only refers to 1219C2 knifes made by Union Cutlery. The knives actually marked KA-BAR. The knives produced by PAL, Robeson, and Camillus will vary.

zzyzzogeton, I think if your out to find one of each variation of this pattern knife your going to need a whole lot of wall space to display them on.:D

Yeah, I know - I'm up to 81 1219C2s, not counting all the various "Commemorative versions" that have been produced. That's only the ones produced under Government contract, none of the Cold Steel/Kiffe/etc/etc/etc wanna be 1219C2s. Some of them are "duplicate knives" because of the sheaths, like the Oxblood vs Black VN era sheaths for the Conetta/Camillus/Utica VN/near VN versions.

Since I got my first one in 1975 for $7.50 at a surplus store, I've been "accumulating" them. The only time I ever had a problem was when I went to a Navy school in Rhode Island and lived on base in the BOQ. I had to check "ALL WEAPONS" in at the armory. They had a cow when I showed up to check in 6 shotguns, 13 rifles, 9 hand guns, 22K+ rounds of ammo (5K in 22LR, the rest were 1-1.5K per caliber) and TWO foot lockers full of 1219C2s, MK1s and Western bowies (W49 and G/L/W46-8). I was more armed than the entire base - Security had 5 each 12ga / 1911s and 2 M14s. :D:D The base had to buy additional gun lockers just to store my stuff. They were "very happy" when I left. :D

ETA:: They let me keep my Navy Sword, 3 bows and several dozen arrows in my BOQ room. :D:D:D
