Hello Blade Forums members,

I need help with finding a budget or value backpack, sleeping bag & tent. For backpack, I'm not looking for tactical or military style backpack, I have a couple already. I need one for camping & hiking (about 10-20 miles on flat terrain) that can hold enough gear for a weekend. I also need a 1-2 person tent and a sleeping bag. I don't think I'll need anything for less than 40 degrees Fahrenheit at night. I can't spend more than $100 for any one item. In fact, the less the better. Is it possible to get good, reasonable quality stuff within my budget?

Thanks in advance!

this one carries 40L of gear, is not military styled and is less than $40 at amazon:

The total is marginally over $125 for all three items combined.

I would check into some of the surplus US sleeping bags now, nice to have several bags which can go together or be left behind if it's not that cold. They can be a great buy these days.
A small tarp can be lighter and cheaper than a tent, or get a good hammock which lets you leave the grown cloth and tent at home.

I recently camped for two nights with a "Crystal Canyon" two-man tent from Cabela's, and it worked great. Unlike some of the tents with minimal rainfly coverage, this one extends almost all the way to the ground. There was light rain over the course of one night, and heavier rain with gusting winds the second night, but I stayed dry and had plenty of room for my gear inside. Bought it in the Cabela's Bargain Cave (online) for around $40.

Can always call some friends and family to borrow theirs or rent from REI. Do you want your own gear that you can keep using or is it just a one time backpacking trip, which you don't plan on going out more often.
