Please Help Need Japanese makers mark help

have to agree with watanabe. That looks chinese to me , too. don't feel too badly, as long as you didnt pay a lot its fine for what it is. unfortunately, the seller being japanese really doesn't matter as much as you would think. he himself could have been fooled. I live in the US, but I've bought fake confederate money from a gent with a southern accent... best thing to do is get an expert apraisal prior to any expensive purchase. now if it's carbon steel,great. it has a bo-hi, and a decent enough tsuka, etc. just use it for fun,and if you didnt pay $300, more power to you. :)
