I am looking for a knife that I saw about 7 years ago and Haven' t been able to find since. I was a fixed blade knife that had a special feature. It had a double ring that attatch into the grip which allowed you to spin the knife to change grips without dropping it. it was a double ring that went around your middle and ring fingers and the pivot point actually mounted into the grip.. I thank you for any help you can give me. Please email me at. James.w.quinn@us.army.mil
Thank you again

Welcome to Bladeforums! :D

I hope someone else can think of this one. I remember the knife you're talking about but I have no idea what it was called or who made it.

this one from the link, Spyken?

No, I think the one he is talking about actually had a piece that pivoted. I remember it also, but can't think of the name...

BruceWayne

I remember seeing this in various catalogs in the mid-1990s but also don't remember the name. I guess the name wasn't catchy since no one on this thread seems to remember it. IIRC this was a black dagger with a wasp-waisted blade with a double ring that was connected to the handle scales so it would be held in a way similar to how one holds a koppo stick.

no, the one I thought he was looking for is the folding saca tripas - it's on the page, but I dont' know how to paste the pic in my post. It's got a two ring grip and is basically a gravity knife.

go to the link I posted, click on the "edged" box menu. then under the "choose your weapon" pull down menu, click on folding saca tripas. voila!

The saka Tripas wasn' t it But the one in the Other forum sounded really close. It was by Gutman cutlery....I will see if I can find a picture

I remember this knife, it was under the Explorer trademark. I believe it was called the Wasp or something like that. I remember the Edge Co. out of Vermont sold it in the mid-90's.

It was a parkerlized(blackened) wasp-waisted blade like a Gerber Mark II with laminated rosewood scales. It looks actually like the old Case pig sticker with a wasp-waisted blade. The handle has a double ring attactment like this:

Rings:---------> 00
Handle slab: ==========

Your index finger and ring finger go through the rings, then you could spin the knife into either the foward or reverse grip using a motion that looked like Karate Kid "Wax on, Wax off" motion:).

It was reviewed in the old Fighting Knives Magazine quickk picks section, and showed up in a few b grade action movies.

I don't think Fighting knives had much good to say about it either. If I remember correctly it was more or less a gimmick thing. Is Guttman still around? I think when it was reviewed by FK it was in combination with another Guttman/Explorer knife...
Just curious but what the hell do ya want one for anyway?

Well When I first saw it I thought it was pretty neat. But now it has become similar to when you forget the name of a actor in a movie and it drives you nuts but multiplied by like 8 years or so. So now I want one for my collection just for the hell of it. Still think its kinda interesting too. Probably just fall apart.

GOT IT!

Edge Co. Summer 1993.

SCDub You rock. That Is the one I think. Do you have any other info on it. Maker, Pictures, Etc. Can' t seem to find the name anywhere still. Thanks again.

The original Gutmann Cutlery that owned the Explorer name sold the company to these folks: www.Gutmanncutlery.com . I believe they've discontinued all of the old lines. You might want to e-mail them and see if they know anything.

Personally, now that you know the name, I'd search Ebay weekly for it.

The Edge Co's number might still be 1-802-257-3067.

Hey Mr. Irish!

No problem.

I'm positive that this is the knife you are thinking of. I recognized the description immediately, (and was actually pleasantly suprized that I was able to find the advertizement in a matter of minutes - not hours).

The maker was Explorer - apparently now Gutmann.

I don't really know how to go about posting pictures here, and I'm not sure that I can since I'm not a gold member. If you REALLY want one I could try to take a digital picture of the magazine page and email it to you. Let me know.

Good luck finding one.

BTW, got any old Busses laying around that you've become bored with?
