Rather embarrassed by the question Im about to ask, but here goes...
Recently Ive discovered this knife design and absolutely fallen in love with it...The tracker knife, the tops version and mainly the dave beck model. Ok, the embarrasing part, I cannot, and WILL NOT at any point in the near future be able to afford, or even put enough money away to purchase this knife, Im poor o.k. is there any quality makers who have a similar design that is a little more affordable?

Mr. Beck, if your reading this please dont take offense!! I understand why the price tag is so hefty and from what ive heard its absolutely worth every penny. One day I shall own one of these amazing tools.

For the time being though could any one help?!!!!!

Thanks for any comments!

I think I double posted this I hope thats o.k.! I didnt really know what forum it belonged in.

Welcome to the forums Runsalone!

Bill Siegle makes a similar tool called "Knax". It's 13.5" overall and seems to be a good chopper and knife in one package. The price is very reasonable I think and quality is outstanding. Visit Mr Siegle's website for more info.

As for the WSK, it won't be made (by Mr. Beck) for much longer. If you want one, get 'em while you can.

As for the Knax, this is a little creepy. I've been doodling knife designs for the past month or so. They are all pretty similar to the Knax.

Others:

Don't know the price, but this maker has a couple of similar designs:

Here's a cheesey looking knock off: http://www.concentric.net/~stircraz/axtionbladez.html

Hope this helps.

Dave's only a part time maker and he's swamped with WSK orders through next year. I think he's working on a batch of 59 of them right now and just finished a batch of 20 something. I believe he will only be offering them on a limited edition basis in the future.

That's all I know. Hope it helps.

I know they are not similar, but if you are on a tight budget and you want a big knife with big chopping power go to the Makers / Mfgs section. Check out Himalayan Imports forum. Big usefull outdoors knives at way under $300.00. Many under $100.00. Great warranty and a really different look.

Another option is to talk with a dealer about putting together a payment plan. I've done this a couple of times, and most dealers are very friendly, and most will work with you a bit.
