First I want to say hello.

I was wondering if anyone can give me any information about this knife. I'm looking for approximate years they were made, etc.

It has Schrade, Cutco, "XXX", NY on one side of the blade (ricasso?). On the other side it has US Pats, Dec 21.09, Sept "xx".10 One one bolster is the number H0577. The XX's are numbers/letters that I cannot make out.

It is an automatic knife. Everything is tight and it opens and closes very well. Pushbutton still works great. Any information at all would be appreciated. Also, should I try to clean it up or leave it the way it is? What should I do to protect it?

Thank You!

Bennie

Most would recommend not to clean it up if you want it to retain it's highest value.

I don't know much about the push button knives. Others will, probably tomorrow. I do know they are valuable. Especially when they work. I can see yours has jigged bone handles (I think I see a hint of brown) and a pretty full blade. A Schrade Cut Co is pre 1946.

Nice one and welcome.

Nice 1st post!!
Welcome!!!
I have a feeling the guys here are gonna have a puddle of drool on their keyboard after seeing the pics
(good job with including the ruler in a pic...that is standard protocol here on BF)

Thanks for the welcome.

thawk - thanks for the info

Trent Rock - I was hoping the ruler would help.

Hopefully someone can give me some more information or steer me in the right direction to find it. Thanks again.

That's a nice one Bennie! I wouldn't recommend cleaning it either. Just a good rub down with mineral oil should do it, and always store it in the open position to keep the tension off the spring. I'm not up on the autos much myself, they're too expensive for me! It looks like a No. 1553 3/4, although the bail has me a little stymied. Is it 4 1/4" long closed? (It looks like it is). The XX's most likely say "Walden", not sure what the bolster nos. signify.

Thanks Codger_64. The picture is too small for my old eyes to make out though! lol

ea42 - Thanks for the information. I was able to find one picture on the web of the model you suggested and it looks right on. I kinda of figured that it would be better to store it open and I'll go out and buy some mineral oil in a few days and get it protected.

I'll measure it closed when I get home from work and try to get it posted tomorrow.

Thanks again,

Bennie
