Please help us with specs and photos for the Fiddleback website

There were some good suggestions recently on improving the Fiddleback customer experience, including expanding the specifications, photos, and comparisons on our website. I plan to get the full model list updated with specs, and to add photos where possible. We also plan to add a gallery of user-submitted photos. Most of this information is already available on the forum, but requires some research for a new user to find.

We need your help! There are some great comparison photos already on the forum, and a wealth of individual photos, but we don't want to use them without permission. I need photos we can republish on the web site of individual knives, and especially photos of the more rare models. I also need comparison photos, preferably with a cutting mat for size reference. I'm asking Phillip to take on yet another task and start collecting shots of each current model on a cutting mat as they come through production, but that will still leave out many models, so please submit!

Thanks,
David

Feel free to use any photo I've posted. I don't have any rare FF knives though.

You're welcome to use any of my pics, and to request ones you might need.

I'll also send you my spreadsheet with the specs.

I have posted a comparison photo or two on this forum to help folks understand the differences between the models I have tried. You are welcome to use any of my photos that you want to promote the business.

Thanks,

Phil

You can use any of my photos you wish. I also have a ton more that are not up on my goggle page. Just let me know what you want and I'll be happy to send you some.

When Phil says he's posted a few, he means a lot! When I say I've posted a few, it really does mean a few, but you're welcome to them.

Also, I have a couple suggestions for you to consider as you update the website:

(1) Photos that compare two models: Marl71 in post 33 on the "Best non-kitchen food prep model?" thread posted a spine-to-spine photo yesterday that compares two models in a way that is very helpful to me. It shows a model I'm familiar with (Bear Paw) alongside a model that I not (Terrasaur). The knives are lying flat on their sides, spine-to-spine, and the photo is shot from straight overhead the spines (in other words, directly above the center of the knives) so that optical distortion is minimized.

(2) Photos that compare variations of different knives of the same model: I realize it's impossible to show all the variations, but you might compare two knives that are at the outer range of that model's variation with distortion-free photos of two knives, plus specs. (thinking of handles here.) Then, when a knife is posted for sale, include measurements or, if that's too much, add a few words, such as "at the longer end of handle-length range", etc. to your Friday descriptions. Fiddleback often does that now on Friday sales with handle thickness, as do some who post on the Flea Market.

Here's hoping that the investment in updating the website will help customers better estimate which knives will work for them, thus leading to more of their knife budget funds going to Fiddleback instead of to PayPal, USPS, and dealer restocking fees, and that Andy and crew will have more time to make these amazing knives.

May I also make a suggestion? Until I discovered the wonderful photos posted by the folks participating/listed above, I was attempting to use the FF website, to help me understand the different models being offered. It didn't help much. The photos on the website are mostly shot an an angle, I would guess to add a bit of drama and artfulness to the image. But that angle distorts the knife's shape/conformation. The difference between some of the models is subtle. I suggest it would help if some of the photos were more straight on.

Thanks, everyone. I have Nathan's spreadsheet, and 'll start pulling together photos from those already available in the forum. Once the dust settles on the first round, I'm sure there will be some specific models that I'll be back asking for help on.

Tom, I agree about the type of shots needed for the website. I'm trying to add shots that make it easy to see and compare the shapes, but will also keep and expand the artistic shots as well. I'm meeting with our web guy tomorrow to look at how best to incorporate a section dedicated to comparisons among various models.

I've submitted a small number of photos but have more that will eventually make it up here. Anything of mine is free to use! Cheers.

I appreciate all y'alls help with this folks!

When you refer to rare models, I assume you only mean models in the current line up (not a complete history).

For now, yes. Although, every now and then Andy throws a model into the mix that hasn't been in the current line up for quite a while.

I don't have many, but free to use any of my pics.
