Hi, I have an old Buck knife that used to belong to my father.

Can anyone tell me what model I have and also the Blade steel? All marking have come off do to sharpening and wear.

That looks very much like an old model 118 that I have. What is it's length?

I'll take a shot in the dark on the blade steel and say that it is likely 440C. Some of the other guys around her should be able to tell you for sure.

The knife looked like either a 105 or a 118. The sheath I did not recognize and are assuming he had that made special.

It is a shame the stamp was so damaged cause that can tell alot about the age of the knife.

I will pass age and value determinations to the "Buck Value/Age Determination Specialists" that will be responding... (BeeVads...):)

Heber,

The knife does appear to be a 105. It looks like the handle spacers are bone hard fiber which would put it at sometime around 1969. We switched to red micarta spacers about that time. If you could see U.S.A. on the stamp, it would narrow it down to 1967-1969.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, it does help. What is Micarta? I scrapped my tooth on the red spacers and they don't feel like bone to me. Also, if it is a 105 from around 1969, what would the blade steel be? I heop it's 440C like Jeff sujested.

Thanks again.

BTW: You guys are doing a great job. Keep up the good work. I look forward to getting another Buck knife. :)

Heber,
From 1961 to 1967 Buck used forgings of 440C. In 1967 we switched to blanked blades, still made of 440C. I am almost positive we used 440C up until 1981. It sounds like yours is 440C. Can you make out U.S.A. on the blade, just under the BUCK? Just curious.

Take care,

All I can make out is the "K" and a little bit of the "c" in BUCK.

An older brother of mine and my Father went on a trip to South America some time in 1975 or 76. My dad used the knife on the trip so I emailed my brother to see if he could give me a date.

Will post the info when I get it from him.
