Hello
I am having a hard time finding a place to sell my late husbands custom knife collection.the knives are all in new condition. I have 2 by Freer, 1 by R.W. Loveless, 4 by Gordon, 2 by Ron Gaston and 1 by Kuzan Oda. I hate to sell these knives but circumstances are forcing me to. I contacted Arizona knives but they want 25%. Does anyone know of a place to sell them at a reasonable commission? Thank you for the advice in advance!
Regards, Tory

Hi Tory,

25% is the going rate for most custom knife dealers. I charge 20%.

I will tell you that you should know how much was paid for the Loveless. Depending on how long ago it was purchased. It could be worth substantially more than what was paid for it.

The Oda will be a desirable knife, although you would have to have special collectors for that one.

The Gordon (Gordon DeFreest) knives will probably sell at a loss.

The Gaston's should break even.

The Freer's will depend on which ones they are.

Part of what you are paying for with a custom knife dealer is their client list, website and ability to accept several forms of payment (credit cards cost between 2 1/2% to about 5% depending on what part of the world the buyer is in).

Hope this helps.

If I can be of further help please feel free to contact me.

First you need to become a Gold Member here, you can sell the knives yourself in the Exchange....and only in the Exchange.

Once you do that most of us would be happy to help you sell your knives.....the Loveless could be VERY valuable, or it could simply be somewhat valuable.

I am personally interested in the Gordon knives...so please send an e-mail at dethrdr@hotmail.com.

Tory, you can also send photos of your knives to the Custom Knife Collectors Association (CKCA; follow the link below to our contact us page). Though we don't have a platform for non-members to sell knives we do have members who are very knowledgeable on the maker's knives you list and should be able to assist you in answering questions and determining value.

It must be hard to sell something of sentimental value.

You could try selling them yourself on bladeforums.com -there are a lot of good people on this forum. Good luck.

I am sorry for your loss.
I am also sorry that you need to sell these knives.

If you need, I will offer to purchase your Gold membership for you to sell here.
I regret that I can not further help you out as my pockets are rather shallow!
Just let me know.

Very Respectfully,
Stefan
