I´m going to purchase a Small Unique Sebenza and I wonder if someone here can help me out and explain some terms for me.

What is:

Cabochon?

Iolite?

B & W etch?

Dual Finish BG-42 blade?

Thumb Notches?

Thonghole?

Please be nice to me I´m a Swedish guy who don´t know the knife terms and I just will be sure what I get.

Thanks

Jocke

Cabochon are the round inlays of stones, minerals, gems, or shell that CRK installs into the handle of the inlayed (not to be confused with the wood-inlay) Sebenzas. The tooling hole that is found in all of the Sebenza handles is enlarged and the cabochon is installed in place (I believe it is epoxied in place).

Iolite is a purplish-blue mineral stone, sometimes called the "gem of the Vikings." Just one of a choice of various cabochons that can be installed in the inlayed Sebenzas. Other cabochons include mother of pearl, garnet, amber, citrine, star sapphire, etc.

B & W Etch refers to the process by which the contrast is enhanced to bring out the pattern in the damascus blades. The finished damascus blades are dipped in an acid etch which darkens the base steel but does not affect the pattern steel which contains nickel, enhancing the pattern contrast.

Dual finish BG-42: The blades are tumbled in media to create the "stonewash" finish, which is a butter smooth surface finish with a sort of mottled, or marbled look. This is the standard blade finish. On "polished" blades (which are an option on the standard Sebenzas and included with the unique pattern Sebbies and the wood inlayed versions), the hollowgrinds are then polished on a finishing wheel that removes the stonewash finish and leaves the hollow grinds with a "satin" polish. As the flats of the blade along the spine and in the ricasso area are still left with the stonewash finish, the term "dual finish" or "two-tone" blade finish applies.
BG-42 is the high grade stainless steel that has just been discontinued by CRK in favor of S30V for use in the Sebenzas and Mnandis. I am sure that the S30V blades will also be available in "polished" version with the two-tone finish.

Thumb notches are the cutouts made in the titanium handle slabs so that the thumb can access the thumbstuds on the blade when opening. This cutout is quite a bit different on the classic Sebbies than on the regular versions. See CRK website to see the differences.

Thonghole is that portion of the female anatomy that is barely covered by material in a thong bikini. Oh, you want the definition as applied to CRK knives? OK, it is the hole at the very back of the handle to attach a cord or leather lanyard to aid in pulling the knife out of a sheath or your pocket. A nylon lanyard comes with the Sebbies from CRK, and excellent instructions on how to tie on the lanyard can be found on the Chris Reeve website.

Thank you very much and thanks Jeff for the email you send me.

I come back with some pics when I got the Sebenza.

Regards.
