I'm very disappointed that my good friend Gus has resigned. If there is enough interest in my following suit, I will do so as well. If not, I'll remain and do the best job I know how.

Here is my proposal. No written rules, no regulations, no whining.

Posts in this forum are for the enjoyment and the continuing education of collectors, makers and purveyors in regard to custom knives. The content of posts should not be commercial in nature. Look to your own heart and conscience in that arena.

I will only step in (unless relieved by Spark) if and when I feel that a thread has gone "over the line" and into commercial territory. (Or if a thread enters into questionable legality, intent, or other behavior not suitable for a public format.)
That is what a moderator does and I will be glad to provide my reasoning for any actions taken.

If I blow a call, let me know. If I get it right, you can let me know if you want to.

Trust me that this is not a power trip for me. I volunteered to help Gus and Spark because this is a place where I have spent so much of my private time and it means a lot to me.

Now, without wasting a whole lot more time on this, I'd like to get back to discussing custom knives. Hopefully you guys will help make that a reality.

I also hope that Gus will come back when things have leveled off.

Well said Elliott,
You the forums and its members will always have my support.

It went where it probably needed to go. I think the above is well stated and addresses the issue in an amicable manner.

Now if I can just make amends with Gus, all will be well with the world again...

Gus asked me to close it, and I did.

I moved it to the "Back End".

Ok, let's all kiss and make up. Gus, come on back. You do a helluva job here. Things will be better tomorrow. lol

But I was serious about the bitchers that don't pay the fee.

And I'm not gonna ask about the "back end". lol

Looks like problem solved. Thats cool as I am looking forward to catching up on my reading here about customs. Stick around as moderator Gus, you and Blues will do a fine job here and Im sure the best interest of the forums will always be what you guys try to do.

Hey I consider Jerry a friend too - no matter what. I did not understand why he was still asking if he was welcome here when he has more than one email from me saying that he was with complements on the way he handles things in general all over the net.

I just don't buy it that when anyone (and I am not talking about Jerry here) mades a post that they can not be honest with themselves as to their motivation and make a decision on where the post should go from there. It ain't rocket science and if someone can not decide when they are stepping over that line they might want to consider another trade since they are not going to fit in well with the majority of the people that do make knives.

I am not going anywhere folks and you can bet that I will support Blues and/or who ever moderates here. I am just tired of putting up with all the B.S that people feel they have a right to give me as a Mod.

The only bad part of this is that I have left a very close friend in here by himself to Mod, but he knows he will have my support in my actions and posts.

Well Elliot, I sure don't want you to go. Where the heck would we be without both Gus and you. I think you are doing a great job and you are welcome as long as you want to stay.

Gus,

You have always done an outstanding job with the Custom forum from day one. This forum would not have near the following and credibility that it has were it not for your efforts.

I am sure I express the sentiments of MOST (99.9%) of the folks that participate in this forum when I say that you will be missed and we hope that you will reconsider your decision and come back so that we can continue to have the benefit of your wit and wisdom. But if the BS has just gotten to be to much and you feel you have to stand by your decision than We support you either way 100%.

As the saying goes, "Don't sweat the small sh*t and it is all small sh*t. Keep it cool buddy.

NOW GET YOUR BUTT BACK TO MODERATIN CUSTOM! :D

Tex, shhhhhh. ;)

If I could just get my friends to stop stirring it up, we might get somewhere...

Hey Tex, go post a picture. :D

Thanks, Ed. How much? ;) (Just kiddin'.)

Maybe Gus will change his mind.
At least I hope so!
Gus loves this forum and knives in general.
He is also a great person!

Blues those rules rule!
NO WHINNING is the one I like!

Guys,

When I first started coming here six months ago I stated that I had been a senior moderator in a very heavily travelled "Adult", no holds barred, chat room for over two years. We had probably 2000 people coming through each day, 7/24. And every one had something to say, some good, some bad, some really, really bad.

I also stated that even though on a hostility level this place was "Romper Room" compared to what I'd seen and lived, the "Burn Out" rate on moderators was going to be high if offensive threads weren't "Shut down" immediately.

And I wasn't talking about censorship, not at all, I was saying that when the "Ball" starts to spin, shut it down. Right then. A new thread can be started and everyone gets a "By"...if the spin starts up again, "Shut it down"

I also suggested that Spark cycle his moderators through...no more than 4 days on for a "regular" moderator...no exceptions. You "Will" take time off, you "will" spend time with your family, friends, dog, etc.

Alot of you guys are on mIRC and/or pIRCh, and what goes on there spills over here...but only if you let it.

I've seen some really petty BS here from a lot of the W&C regulars, and you guys act like your the first to "Clique it." It's old news to some of us folks, BTDT.

What you guys don't seem to realize is that your words hurt. They hurt everyone. They hurt you for debasing yourselves. They hurt the "newbies" that you view as cannon fodder, and they hurt your friends...the regulars.

So I'll give you folks the low down on how this plays out.

You slam someone..., and you cover it up with all the cutsie ;) :) :p :D faces that you want, and they leave. It's your sandbox again. And then you get bigger and bolder. You need a new challenge. Everyone that disagrees with you becomes a target after awhile.

It's blood lust, plain and simple, (this one is for you Tim), and after awhile you turn on your friends...but it's all in fun and games right?

Moderators and regulars leave. At first they leave for a day, then two, then a week, and then for good. New moderators come up, and the cycle renews itself.

Eventually, you've burned out everyone that ever meant anything to you, including yourself. That's what "playful" words do to people.

Mark my words, you can be the biggest, baddest, funniest, smartest guy in here....but if you don't temper your comments and thoughts, you'll lose everything that you hold dear from an internet perspective.

It WILL happen...maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but it will happen...you'll fold, you'll push the keyboard away, stagger off lost and hurt, and wonder how the f*ck you ever got involved in the first place...again, BTDT.

Everyone of us is Gus, and Gus is everyone of us...it takes it's toll.

Will Gus come back? Sure he will, for a short while, but the pressure will change him more and more each time, until he's gone.

Now, everyone please laugh at me and call me a wanker. Big strong guys, it'll never happen to you right. Enjoy your moment of laughter guys, because when you stop laughing, and you eventually will, you'll see me over there smirking on the sidelines...and you'll remember these words.

Is what I'm saying here a predestined reality? Sure it is, if Spark doesn't get 3 times the number of moderators, and cycle them through with time off. And if you "funny" guys don't smarten up. BTDT.

Of the 40+ moderators, 3 of us were "Goderators" with the power to kick, ban, put you on everyone's ignore list, etc. Denial of service attacks, Nukes, worms that ate the boot sector of your hard drive rendering your computer useless...sure, I did those things to people, and other "stuff" too.

But the worse thing I ever did was turn on my friends, and that I truly regret. It's your show "Kids", but once you muddy the waters, there's no going back...ever.

Play nice, if you enjoy your time here, play nice...or you'll lose it, just as sure as the sun rises in the east, you'll lose it.

And no, I'm not volunteering for such a thankless job again. BT...DT

Gus, you KNOW that you and me are bro's so I'll back you whichever way you decide to go, though I do hope you come back after a rest. Just want to say thanks for all the time you did put into this and the way you carried yourself. No doubt if he were still here, JKM would like your style.

Dave

Gus,
I'm with Dave...ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
And for what it is worth, this written format isn't the best venue for towel snappin grab a$$ humor. Too easily it comes off (reads) uglier than intended, smiley or not.
This is too valuable a place to lose.
Ebbtide out.
