Hello all,

I am looking for a nice blade in a 2-2.5 inch cutting surface. I was really liking a Strider PT. But they are so hard to find and expensive. I saw the Sypderco Dragonfly.. looked nice, but didnt care for that pocket clip. Right now using a Kershaw Chive but I cant get enough grip for heavy duty box cutting. Then I switch to my Paramilitary which is awesome but big for my pocket depending on my day. I trying to find that nice sweet spot between the tiny Chive and Para .

Some of my criteria....
- I would like Finger choil- for a more full grip
- I Would like at least 2-2.5 inch blade..
- blade materials - no preference - I like s30v, VG10 and aus8
- handle - no preference. G10 - nylon - or stainless will all work fine.
-pocket clip - I like them,, but not a deal breaker.

thanks for your input.

I agree with you in that the Strider PT would be a great knife for what you want. I personally have & love my recurve PT with STR low-rider clip.

However, for something less expensive, I'd recommend a Spyderco Sage. I don't know your budget, but they're less than a Para Military, thinner, & low-riding in the pocket, plus they have one of the better choils on a Spyderco, IMHO.

Spyderco Dragonfly? FFG VG 10 blade, which is 2" and change (I think). Option of stainless or FRN handle. I think there's a G-10 version coming out eventually (may have just been a rumor I heard, I don't recall).

Kershaw Scallion or Leek. The Leek is available in a number of premium steels.

The Sage has been mentioned already. I would also add a Caly 3 to the list. If you like AXIS locks, the H&K 14210 is a classy knife with excellent materials and workmanship. The blade will be about 3" with a cutting edge almost that long. No finger choil on the H&K, though.

Question: specifically, blade within 2-2.5 inches? +- 0.1 inches or something?
I'd say some of the Boker Subcom/Wharcom stuff might be a decent choice, though the Dragonfly is probably one of the better mid-priced production folder choices out there.

Consider a Kershaw D2 Leek (or even the damascus versions).

Take a native and snap of a 1/4 inch and regrind the tip shape to your preferance. Or a cheaper buck/ strider will do.

Another knife that I don't think anyone has mentioned is the Spyderco Copilot. I had one, back in the day, and it was an awesome little knife. They stopped making them for a while, but they are back in production.
