Hi

I must go for one big tent instead of smaller ones.

What are the good ones out there? The lighter the better.

price 250 up to 300$

Thanks

I'm not sure "4-person" and "backpacking" go together. At least not usually.

Might work okay if the parts (poles, tent, fly) are dispersed among a few packers.

Will you truly be backpacking, or will you be car camping?

I do like my Base Camp 4 from REI, but I wouldn't want to pack that sucker anywhere.

no joke... if you are car camping then you are open to a lot of tents.. if youare backpacking. take 2 "2 man" tents... REI tents are good for the $$.. LL bean tents are good too.. they are made in the same factory (mostly in china) as most of your top of the line tent makers.. i would buy an REI and not think twice about it.

i only have 2 tents.. a 2 man north face thats about 10-12 years old (love it, built very well) and survived some torrential storms in it.

6-8 man tent i found in sale by Browning... i have only used it once or twice and it never rained so i am not sure of the actual quality..

I'd look at getting this. Shang Ra La 4 from Go Lite. I just purchased one from this fella last week, and they are new condition. If you want lightweight then this is your baby, although it's tight for 4 people. Doable but tight.

I'll be using this 3.5 lb Go Lite as my primary shelter as soon as I install an stove jack. It could be teamed up with an siltarp and you'd have an tarp to stow gear in and use the shelter for bodies only. Still lightweight.

whats for sale?? sorry for the ignorance. i guess SL-4 means sleep 4? can you better explain whats for sale? thanks

I'd agree that a true 4-person tent is tough, unless you're willing to schlep a lot of weight and bulk. If it's for a couple + kids (or pets), you might check out some of the larger 3-person tents to see if they might fit (REI Quarterdome T3 Plus, Big Agnes Seedhouse SL3, etc.).

I think Tarp Tent makes some tents in that size, not sure about the price or specs. Anybody with any experience with those?
