after buying only small knives this year
(mostly custom neckknives)-
now i feel to need a change,
i`m looking for a real BIG knife, about 20" OAL! Minimum!
Up to 30" - not more.
I saw this "WEREWOLF The Klaive" at BLADES- Magazine Sept 01 page 51,
but i`m not sure if it is a working knife or a decoration piece only?!?

Who can give me info or links about this one please?
I have no idea where to buy it and what the price would be.
Or could you recommend another "short sword"?

I would look over Jerry Hossom's CPM3V blades if you want something that large. They will definitely perform well and are not heavy and clumsy like a lot of other "large" fixed blades.

You might want to post this question in the SWORD forum since, you really are looking for something more then a big fixed blade knife.

A top quality Khukri may fit your needs. Check out the Sirupati (sp?) used in martial arts training. These are not field tools, more specialized as a fighting tool.

Have you considered a custom Tomahawk? If you are wanting something for a fight with some reach, you might be surprised at how affordable some of these are and, how effective they are in good hands. Check out the Axe, Hatchet and, Tomahawk forum.

Let us know what you turn up!

Sid Post's recommendation about Jerry Hossom's knives is a good one.
I had the privelage of handling some of Jerry's stuff at the Guild Show.
His big blades are pure performance driven thoroughbreds.
I was so very dissapointed I'd spent a wad already and didn't have enough left for one of Jerry's bad boyz.:(
Jerry's line-up is chock full of really good stuff.
Get one of his and you may quit looking for other big blades. ;)

How about a Larry Harley Battle Bowie? They have proven themselves it battle (D.Storm), and just look good, to boot. http://www.lonesomepineknives.com/battle.htm

Paragon Cutlery makes a production version if this is too expensive.

Jerry Hossom
Rob Patton
Wendell Fox
Bill Bagwell
Bruce Evans
Matt Lamey

That's where I'd start! :)

Jerry Hossom absolutely makes some of the best big blades around.

Here's my Hossom Millenium Machete:

Top photo - Super Salyan next to 12 1/2" OAL Sirupati ( 4" handle, 8 1/2 blade

Bottom photo - Super Salyan under Thompson. Spyderco Endura to provide perspective.

Stats: Overall length 18"; Blade length 12"; Handle length 6"; SPINE THICKNESS 3/4" (.750"); WEIGHT 4 lbs.+; Production status discontinued, but bigger and smaller blades remain in production.

Sorry, but I just had to gloat a bit. Not my biggest knife but the only one with a full 3/4 inch thick spine.

( PS: I also have a 30" Sirupati I keep for theraputic purposes. When my back hurts I take it out and swing figure-8's with it til it stretches my spine out and loosens it up. Has paid for itself in chiropractor visits. )

for a user, I would look at some of the offerings from Mineral Mountain Hachet Works.

I would toss a knife by John Fitch into the ring for consideration.
Good choices!

thanks for the plug
doubbledged its an awsome killing knife
single edgfe i won the abs cutting championship
of course i love it but its still a hell of a knife

Check out Himalayan Import's big khukuri's. Some of their khukuri's are certainly within the size range you specified. You will be pleasantly surprised by the price.
