Even more important than what you're putting the grommets in, is what part of the world are you in? If in USA you might look here for a cheap simple grommet tool with solid brass grommets for $13 or so shipped:

If you're in some other part of the world, not sure what they've got there, but I'm sure there would be something like the first grommet tool somewhere. That's what I've used for many years.

I recommend this grommet machine, it comes with 1500pcs silver grommets, includes 1/4", 3/8'', 1/2" dies.
