Hi everyone

Please recommend top quality 100% hand loomed virgin wool blanket that can take a beating and last for a life time.

I appreciate your experiences with wool blankets for the outdoors.

Pendelton Mill seem very well made, I don't own one, but they are very nice, similar to military surplus in density, but not so scratchy. Pendelton may not be hand loomed, but they are rugged. For camping, I've used a surplus military wool blanket, but we all know how scratchy those are.
I backpack, so weight is a critical issue. I chose the Kifaru Woobie for the weight of 1 pound 4oz. I find it to be warmer than the wool blankets I've used, and more comfortable. With my dog, long under wear and a winter tent, my Woobie was very warm @ 29 degrees.
One twin size wool blanket from (your blanket site dot com) weights 6 pounds and costs $180 at it's cheapest, and they don't look like they were made for camping.
Sorry I can't be of much more help, but "hand loomed" to me sounds delicate compared to the surplus or Pendelton Mills blankets.

Why hand-loomed?

For machine loomed, I own a Pendelton Yakima Camp blanket, and it's very nice. I also own a selection of military surplus blankets, mainly german, that are also very good.

I don't think you can top Pendleton for American made. Still made in Oregon but they moved the mill away from Pendleton. Really nice stuff, made to last. I got one of their blankets at REI on sale, keep an eye out.

Faribault Woolen Mills has restarted their historic factory in MN.

this is some of the best news i've heard all year!
I have a couple of their blankets from back in 97 -- great stuff! used one rolled up in an oilskin tarp for "period/primitive" camping for several years and it still looks close to new.
