Hey guys, my dad wants a set of 20 steak knives, good ones, on a budget of $200-$400. Can you recommend some good ones? Thanks

Check around. Get some Green River steak knives. I think you can get 4 sets of 6 for @ $300 with holders. Also Victorinox has some good steak knives. A lot depends on what your dad likes.

Opinel paring knives work very well as steak knives, and you can stain the handles to any color you want.
Otherwise, the Old Hickory QN-7533 4" paring knife is a good pattern

either of these can be had for less than $10 per blade, both are carbon steel with riveted wood handles.

If he wants prettier knives, Wusthof solid steel steak knives can be had for about $80 /set of 8 in a presentation box. for $100 you can get the matching carving set included with them.
Laguiole steak knives are $60-80 for a set of 6 in a box, depending on handle material.

Tramontina makes a pretty decent steak knife. I've seen them available at restaurant supply stores, so getting 20 should be easy as you don't need to deal with a retailer. As mentioned the victorinox ones are worth looking at as well, if you prefer a plastic handle knife.

the steak knife rabbit hole goes as deep as ful custom knives and wanderful wood plates to eat off of and not harm the edge of the knives. if i can find a lath with a 14 inch swing i have an order for a pair of 12 inch burl plates
