I went to a small gun show in Houston today looking for a Milatary (new to the collection) and a Wegner( replacement for one lost). I found plenty of Milatarys but no Wegners. This is after several hours of driving last weekend looking at dealer in the area with a Wegner--no luck. Are the Wegners still being made? Does anyone know of an online dealer with some.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob. We still make Wegner's and ship every day. It seems that there is a reluctance on the part of dealers to carry the model. We are at a loss to understand why.

I am also at a loss. This is one of the best knife designs bar none.

I find it funny that a design so well liked is such a slow mover for Sal. I got to thinking about my first impression of this knife and it may go to explain some of the problems. When I first saw the knife, I thought it looked ergonomic but kind of like a banana...a little bit ugly. I neglected to buy it for a long time until several here on BF raved about it. I bought the jr in a serrated edge originally and "fell in love" with the design. Since then it has become my all time favorite design of any I've owned or seen...and I've own hundreds of production knives. I now own 4 plain edge jr., a mouse, a large plain edge and have a custom fixed blade on order from Simonich.

All that to say that this knife does not make an initial impression until you have one to hold. The knife does not look that nice until you can appreciate the design and manufacture, and then you gain a whole new perspective.

What I would like to attribute the problem to is the fact that it has not been updated to VG10 and some other improvements that many of us would like to see...but then I would look like I was a pathetic opportunist!

Oh! What the heck...

Sal, Perhaps you should consider a "special" run for us Wegner nuts.

BTW, it was good to hear Tim was talking to R&D about an update to the design...any other news about this?

Because they look quite weird. No joking, it is one of those blades that unless you can pick up and look at...

Just my museings.

A little bit off-topic, but...

How does the Wenger's ATS-34 blade hold up as far as corrosion resistance? I have heard that ATS-34's resistance to rust can vary depending on the heat treat, etc., and would like to know how Spyderco's version compares to others' ATS-34. (Though as mentioned above, a switch to VG-10 for this model might be the ticket).

BTW: Is the Wegner's pivot adjustable for wear?

James,

I've never had any trouble with any of the Spydies with ATS-34, as far as I can tell. Perhaps others could give you some more input.

As for the Wegner, according to what I've read, Sal has stated that the current manufacture of the full-size Wegner does have an eccentric pivot. Original manufactured versions do not.
