I have been bitten by the slip joint bug! I need some advice from you guys. What would be a good first slip joint perchase? This is all I have been able to come up with to narrow it down,I would like a sow belly with carbon steel, under $100. What the heck am I thinking ? My bank account can NOT handle me falling for another knife genre.....but they are soooooooooo beautiful!!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure most production sowbellies would be under $100 but just a little maybe, that is if you don't go for an expensive handle material. There is a good thread here somewhere that is devoted to sowbellies, it should give you plenty of choices to drool over. You might just have to go back a few pages to find it!

Case makes a yeller handled Sowbelly in carbon steel for about half of your spending limit.

Search "Bulldog knives sowbelly". I'm not talking about Boker. The have some nice looking carbon ones for <$100.

Sounds to me like you already know what you want and that sowbelly is a great one! Get yourself the stag Case 39 CV Sowbelly as Mark mentioned and I think you will be very happy with it!

The Right Path in this case is just the beginning....the slopes of the foothills of Mount Traditional :D Nobody, as far as I know has reached the summit but the climb is totally rewarding, always:thumbup:

Good luck with finding that Sowbelly, but it's only a taster......

Thanks guys.I guess what I should have asked is what brands are consistant in the quallity and fit and finish of traditionals.while surfing around checking out some of the sugestions that y'all gave me I started looking at easy open style traditionals AAAAAAAAH will my obsesion ever end!!???Thanks again guys!

Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate

Roughly translated to, "you're doomed."

If you just want to dip your toes in the water I believe Rough Rider makes a sowbelly. If you want to dive right in check out the Case models and the others that have been mentioned. If you win the lottery you can search in the knifemaker's for sale area as I saw one recently there offered at $1200.
