What fixed blade within this price range would beat the snut out of this knife?

I am not a fixed blade person but becoming one fast love the blade shape and width, handle material. I like the guy who makes it but I want the fixed blade gurus to educate me about what is even better.

here are some pictures and its 175$ Doug Ritter RSK Mk3

There are lots of GREAT fixed blades for sale in the Knifemakers' For Sale: Fixed Blades forum, at or around that price range ($125-$225).

Keep an eye out there, because they sell fast when they're posted!

Give a thought to Ranger knives - Justin can do almost everything you want for reasonable price  (there is Ranger knives forum @ knifeforums.com, you can check it out)

Another brand to consider might be Bark River.

Ditto, on the Swamp Rat knives. I just got a Howling Rat (4" blade) for 128 and that is a major bargain for this quality of knife.

What is the difference between Howling Rat and GAME WARDEN?
How do these 2 compare?

For the size... that's a great knife.
It's has an excellent blade geometry and S30V is a really
good steal. Now it might not be the best chopper but
that's because of size and weight. for a 4.5" FB knife that's excellent.

Of course there are other knives in that size and price range.
Try looking Bark River knives / the Busse brands / Rangers / Benchmade etc. Lots of choices.

But I don't think you can go wrong with that knife.

So many choices so little money!

Howling Rat LM is bigger OAL, and the Game Warden is INFI (vs. superbly heat-treated 52100 which Swamp Rat calls SR101). If you search around the forums, I've read the difference in performance of INFI vs. SR101 is about 10%. Depends if you want to justify paying the extra for the INFI Game Warden or not.

Also, the Game Warden is not easy to acquire directly from Busse. They are somewhat limited in number, and are only released in spurts at the Busse Company Store. It involves many hours sitting at the Company Store hitting F5 for the chance to hit one. The other option is the secondary market, where you can find them at not too bad a mark up (as you have to factor in the $16 shipping cost from the factory that it costs to buy a blade from the Company Store if you had bought the blade directly yourself).

The Howling Rat, in comparison, is a standard model that is produced and easily acquirable from the Swamp Rat Company Store.

Be warned, once you buy a Busse blade of any sort, you'll find yourself buying more...and more...and more... ;)

Thanks all for the tips. please continue :)

Deadhead Archer, Thanks for taking the time to write that detailed reply.

You are obviously a busse man

thanks

Any Fallkniven should ring you bell loud and clear. Also look at the Fehrman line of knives made from 3V steel or even the Trident (now Crusader Forge) blades made from S30V and hardened just perfect.

I have and have had Busse knives but that is not they're just right for you. You have to look around and decide what is in your price range.

I also have knives from Ranger, Tops, Randall, and several other makes.

So what BUSSE ? game warden? badger attack? or what?

What busse is 3,5 4" flat ground blade that is good for general camp work game its with out being too heavy or too small?

My choice would be the Anorexic Badger Attack, shown here in the Middle with brownish red handle. To the right there are some Game wardens. The new Badger has a handle like the Satin Jack to the left. Only trouble is, the Anorexic Badgers are very hard to come by since they are discontinued. The new Badgers should be great knives, and if you choose to buy a Busse are probably your best bet. I am not sure if the new badger is flat ground- if it is like the Satin Jack Tac, it has a Full convex primary grind.

Take a look at Ethan Becker's RAT-5 or RAT-7- Doug Ritter is a good guy- that equipped to survive site he runs is great.

OK can someone clarify please?

I would put Ingrams and Dosiers in one group. Strong dependable but not heavy duty.

Then, we have the Fallkniven f1 and the Dugritter. stronger than the first group. heavy duty to some extent.

Then we have the Chris Rees and Randels and Striders. a grade above

Then we we have the the Busses and Swamp rats. The toughest most dependable.

This is my understanding of fixed blades from what I read in forums so far.

Feel free to correct me or even smack my hand for writing this rubbish:D
