Hello again Friends,
As you all know recently Duncan and his wife Sue held a very generous photo contest. I was lucky to be chosen for a KILLER old Schrade Stockman! When I first found out the news I was so happy and it really brightened my days! I spoke to Duncan and he told me I should have a package in a few weeks and he even told me there was a little something extra! Well, knowing Duncan I was looking forward to something great, but WOW, I just can't believe the generosity of this friend of mine, Duncan. I received the package last night and I promptly cut it wide open with my 76 outlaw. First I find a hand written note (which I think we need more of today, its so much more touching and personal) from Duncan. The contents were extremely thoughtful and it shows that Duncan really cares.
I cut open the wrapping for the knives and the first charmer I handled was the Schrade. WOW, I love this knife, it has SO MUCH charm and character and it is one of the most unique knives I have ever seen. The covers are truly beautiful in person and really took me by surprise! The blades all walk and talk like a good ole' boy and they are very full AND sharp (thanks Duncan
). I love this knife it is absolutely perfect for me. I could not have picked a better knife and it makes a lot of impact to me that Duncan carried this knife himself. The federal shield just puts it over the top and I have decided its my favorite. To keep it short (I could go on) I am just blown away by the Schrade.
Then, I see a nice Green CASE knives box. Hmmm, I see a TB product number (AWESOME)....I read in Duncan's note that there was some ebony in this package and knowing Duncan I was ready to see some beautiful covers...I pulled the Saddlehorn SFO out of the wax paper and it feel into my palm with a very high feeling of quality and comfort. The ebony? The darkest I have ever seen and really it seems like a higher grade then I have ever held. I have never owned a Case knife in stainless or a trapper so this knife is VERY cool to me. The action is tactile with crisp and smooth half stops and authoritative snaps. The blades have beautiful hollow grinds and very nice thin edge grinds. I just could not help myself since I plan to carry and use this knife so I got out my translucent arkansas stone and honed the edge on the master clip blade. It was slightly dull, I could tell Duncan did not sharpen it up like that savage schrade. Well, not to make this thread anything other than appreciating Duncan's gesture, but it honed up just as easily and well as my GEC in 1095, so I'm going to stop reading about steel on forums and just form my own conclusions from now on. Anyhow, I just wanted to give a nice write up of these knives, they both grabbed a hold of me and found a permanent spot in my EDC rotation.
I just wanted to make this write up as generally speaking to the group I know here, but Duncan, I am blown away! This DID brighten a LOT MORE than just one day out of my year. This will never be forgotten and I will always appreciate this. I plan to get up plenty more photos but here is a start from this afternoon when I had just a moment to try to do these beauties justice
Shot them with the same camera from the contest and the same out of the camera posting style.
Thanks my friend,
Kevin
