I've read a few posts in different topics about the strength and rust resistance of Survive! knives over ESEE. How much of a difference in rust protection are we talking about? Is it a difference that will be noticeable or just something on paper? Would that difference apply to say a Bravo 1 as well or just ESEE?

I'm not a steel guru, but Survive! uses stainless steel (20CV) in some of their models where as ESEE uses only 1095. Also the non stainless steels (3V) that Survive! uses are more resistant to rust than normal 1095. Regardless of the steel though, proper maintenance is key to making it last a long time

The warranty on Survive is really good (not quite the no questions of ESEE but still good) The steel is obviously superior. The heat treating is rumored to be done by the same boys that do Striders hear treat so it is world class. The knives come with free life time sharpening and for a giant chunk of 20CV or 3V the price is not bad at all. I say go for it I have heard nothing bad about Survive.

ESEE coats their steel. It shouldnt rust except for the edges and logos if you neglect the knife.

SURVIVE! Makes a top of the line product. They are my favorite fixed blades. They only have a few models, but they each cover a need. A pairing of a 3.5 and 5.1 will literally cover anything you can think of.
I have had 3V knives from a couple of makers and never had any rusting or pitting. I rinse em with fresh water and wipe em with mineral oil before storing them for periods of time. The SURVIVE! stonewashed finish holds the oil exceptionally well. Their edge is also the sharpest factory edge I have ever seen. Go check out their subforum.

As an experiment, I have a 3V bark river necker that I have been storing for over a year without mineral oil and it hasnt stained pitted or rusted.
