Please tell me this isn't what I think it is... Cold steel spike...

Hi guys,

Inspired by a beautiful cold steel spike refurbishment, I got a few. Basically I wanted to sand them back to about 200/400 grit or even polish them.

I got the paint off and saw this...

Note the top and bottom have big round areas where it looks like they have soldered them.

Is it possible that they have filled in holes on these hawk heads?

If so is sanding them back pointless..

I'm pretty miffed as I really wanted to put some time in and make these look display worthy.

It now appears that I may be trying to polish a turd.. Is there any point sanding these back or are these going to look even worse when I sand them.

Have cold steel reverted to repairing dodgy heads instead of doing them properly??

Can I do anything with these? I certainly wasn't expecting perfection from these but this is a little worse than I was expecting...

What you are seeing is the result of the edge hardening process. The CS hawks that I have pimped had a similar appearance. Polish them up. They will look great and the hardened area will look great also. If you etch the finished hawk the hardened areas on the edge and tip of spike will be darker.
Good luck and have fun.

This was simply beautiful work. I know I'll have to put a lot of effort in but it will be worth it to end up with something looking like that.

Man I was disappointed when I thought this was no longer an option....

Thanks for your replies guys. Much appreciated...
