Hello everyone. I'm looking for a 2 blade traditional looking folding knife. I would like at least one blade to lock, and I would like one blade to be sheepsfoot style. I'd prefer it not to be crazy expensive. The knife will be a user for chores including whittling, peeling apples for my kids, cutting open boxes, etc. My preference for the sheepsfoot evolved from cutting string or temporary wristbands from my kids. Less pointy = reduced chance of stabbing squirming child. My problem is that I don't know if this knife exists in a production model, or what that style would be called. Two bladed stockman? Barlow?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Err... I'm new to traditional knives so I can't help much, but in order for everyone else to, may I ask what your preference is in terms of steel? Meaning carbon or stainless. Just going by your usage, I suggest stainless (if you don't have a preference) due to the fruit cutting.

Any preference on where it's made, or handle materials?

I know you said that you'd prefer it to be reasonable in terms of price, but do you have a budget you can share?

All of these will help narrow it down for the folks that CAN help. ;)

I'm not too particular about steel or handle material for this knife. Blade staining from fruit cutting wouldn't really bother me. I have other harder use knives that I rotate through for work, so this would be more of a "family friendly" knife to carry when we're all out in public somewhere. I'd prefer something <$50 (having two small kids is awesome, but expensive), but I have to say that the A.G. Russell Planterz posted is a beautiful knife (thanks!).

Thanks for the help!

I suspect you're looking for the new GEC #15 Easy-Open Sheepsfoot "Boys' knife."
Right up your alley, methinks.

Two blader with at least one that locks will vastly narrow your choices if that is a steadfast criteria. One in current production comes to mind....

echoing others, I think the lock blade narrows your choices a lot. if you can forsake this, then case, buck or a US schrade Stockman (with some patience looking out for the latter) would be within your price range, multi-bladed with a sheepsfoot

maybe some scissors are an alternative to the child safe sheepsfoot, in which case Wenger make an 85mm locking-blade SAKs with scissors, within budget.

This trapper from Rough Rider has a large locking leaf-shaped clip blade and a smaller Wharncliffe secondary blade.
It comes in several different handle materials for about $15. Good quality import knife with stainless blades.

As posted earlier. The AG Russell is pretty sweet! This is AG's version of a German hunting knife. Perhaps Weidmannsheil still makes a version?

Thank you all very much for the suggestions. I ordered a Rough Rider locking mini trapper for now. For $12 shipped, it was hard to pass up, and if I don't like it I'm sure it will make a nice little gift. I couldn't find the Great Eastern Cutlery #15 puukkoman suggested, but I think it's a relatively new release, so I'll keep my eye out for it. The best part about the RR is I saved enough money to buy the BK15 that's been haunting me.

Thanks again. If the Rough Rider is better than expected I'll let you know.
