Perhaps I haven't been paying attention to the development of the Kasper, but wasn't REKAT doing the production model, and Pat Crawford doing the customs? When did CRKT come into the picture, and how do REKAT and Crawford feel about more Kaspers being made?
Richard,
I brain farted on that one. You are correct, REKAT and Crawford do the Carnivore. I guess now CRKT and Crawford do the KFF.
Does anyone have any idea how much these things will cost? Also how is CRKT quality? (For reference I consider Spyderco, Benchmade, and the Kershaw/Ken Onions pretty good)
These are supposed to be out next month. I hope they are plentiful, because I want one. I just wish they had used better materials. I know it would cost more but I would like to see them at least on par with the m-16 series. CRK&T produces quality knives for the money. I would consider them a notch below Benchmade and Spyderco, not because of quality but because of materials. They make an excellent product for the price. I would like to see them make a knife with materials comparable to Spyderco/Benchmade.

CRKT's pattern with custom collaborations seems to be to make Zytel handles together with AUS6M blades, for good design, construction, and mechanics and a blade that's "easily sharpened," with a low price.
CRKT Aluminum handles, such as the Grey Ghost Mirage series and the aluminum-handled M16s, get AUS8 blades and a somewhat higher price tag. Their titanium or carbon fiber handles get matched to premium steel.
So who's design is the Point Guard? It shows some "similiarity" to Puma auto. The blade is shaped a bit differently and has a different grind.
Compare with the picture at Knifeshop -> autos -> Puma. If this for some reason doesn't work in your browser go to Knifeshop and follow links to Pocket Knives -> automatic knives -> Puma automatic.
Well I just got my March issue of "Blade". After all the snow here, and having the flu for a week and a half I'm stll catching up. Thanks for the pic Mr. Mattis.
We should be able to get both the KFF and the Point Gaurd for around $40 each (which is VERY reasonable, but typical of CRKT as they make a good product for a low price).
I not sure about the point Guards but the KFFs will be using zytel handles. Too bad. I was hoping for aluminum to match the weight of the Crawford original. A trainer knife mind you, with its edges rounded and the tip blunted. Perhaps an AL version will come out if they show to be popular. MSRP for the zytel KFFs are $59.95. Quite attractive.
Ghecko, the carbon m16's have a blade made of Accuto 440, whatever the hell that is, according to the catalog. From the steel analysis in the back of the catalog it looks like it might be similar or the same as 440c. CRKT makes some really nice looking knives, it is a shame they use AUS6 so widely. I can't imagine how it would be that much more expensive to step up to at least AUS8, particularly on the Kasper. Frustrating!
