Please verify the model on this knife. *pic heavy*

I received this knife a few days ago, and have been puzzled by the lack of information on them. One of the things that has confused me is that I believe the person that I got it from inadvertently changed the box when he sent it to me (he's a trusted friend). What happened is that he laid out several of his Buck/Striders for me to choose from, and must have gotten confused when he re-boxed them.

So, to the point of my post, my friend is off-grid and I'd like to verify what this knife is. My research shows that it's a model 882 SBTG, made in 2003. Could I please get some confirmation? I'd really appreciate it, as I plan to sell it to fund another project and certainly don't want to list the wrong model and specs!

You are correct. This is from the 2004 catalog. The knife must have been introduced in 2003 too late to be shown in the catalog for that year and was introduced as "new" in 2004.

That's awesome, thanks! I don't know if you have that catalog in hand, but do they list a version that has the screw down G-10 scales instead of the riveted TACCOM?

Not in 2003 or 2004. This one (the 882) showed up in 2005 (top illustration) but changed to 154CM in 2006.

Taking a closer look at the pictures that you posted has me a bit confused. Your's dosen't match any of the ones shown in the catalogs exactly.

OK, first off, wow thank you for checking on that for me. Yes, that is odd, but doesn't surprise me too much - it's almost impossible to find anything with all these attributes in the same knife. At first I thought it might be the 887 from the box that was sent with it, but apparently it's a different animal. Nothing seems to match all of the specs perfectly.

I'd like to get this straight before I list it for sale - not sure that is going to happen as I plan to list it tonight.

I owe you guys for checking in on this for me. Don't be afraid to come collect if you need something!

No problem. I know next to nothing about the Strider/Bucks so all I know is what I've shown here.

It's odd, if the knife is from 2003 as the T indicates, it shouldn't be screwed together. The different color pivot could just be a case of the illustrations showing a pre-production sample or a prototype and the production model used the blackened pivot instead. Buck will use the same picture of a knife year after year in the catalogs.

Is the T something other than the date stamp?? I have no clue.

I was noticing that as well.
It looks closer to my Buck that i got out of the bent n bent bin during a factory tour, if i knew where it was i would upload a pic

but what i was told with mine was a demo run, if you look at the axis screw its black when the webpages above are stainless
mine is black aswell

dont know if that helps

Thanks, that's good info.

I've located pictures of a couple of them that are virtually identical to Coolz version and both of them have the stainless pivot just like the catalog shows.

So much for my theory of the catalog showing pre-production models.:o

Yikes, well, man now what to do… Do you think it is fair to list it as an 882 SBTG? We haven't proved it either way, so yeah, I'm lost as to what to do. I suppose I could list it as a "unique" 882 SBTG. I want to be fair, and I can say with full confidence whomever gets this specimen will be happy. Meanwhile, trying to get through to my friend and figure out what went funky with the exchange (box mix-match). Thanks again, fun mystery. ooooo hehe

Took me a while to find the box (I keep all of the boxes). This is my last 882, and the box it arrived in, bot from Buck Store online via a Web Special years ago $45.

One final thanks, as this knife is going to a new owner! Couldn't have done it without your help, guys.

That one just compounds the mystery for me although there's probably a good explaination that I'm not aware of. Another one with the 2003 date stamp (if the T IS a date stamp) but in a box with a 2006 date on it.

Good for you, glad to help.

Plumberdv… the box is a known mistake, sorry about that. I just don't have (and apparently he can't find) the correct box. After all of this, I firmly believe that the T is the date stamp, but, as I've told you, I'm not so good at this.

It's going to a good home!

I knew that from your early posts. I was referring to the date on the box shown with oregons knife that's also marked with a T.
