Sebenza.

Hi all,

I've no opportunity to fondle locally, but am sure to score a small Seb real soon now. I've seen a lot of styles I like but am unsure which might be more comfortable in the hand; the regular or Classic/21. Please volunteer your thoughts.

I would ordinarily just jump on the newer (21) but have found one or two beauties, on the older 'Regular' frame that I'm really drawn to. I'm just not certain what to do or which to go for. Your opinions would help.

Thanks,
Rob

I have had several sebenzas over the last year or so. I purchased my first, a BG-42 large regular the first of the year, several others followed. I find the 21 easier to open with the larger groove, but I do not care for the rest of the profile ( blade profile ), and the squarer handle. After trading them away, I now have ALL regulars. 4 Large Regular & 2 Small Regular. The last 21 style I had I traded it for a Mnandi. I prefer the Regular Profile overall, wether it be large or small. I like the finger grooves on the regular, they are not sharp, but grippy enough that the knife is held securely. I will post a pic of a couple of mine for size compare. The other is my heavily used Large Regular NCIS engraved sebbie.

Size Compare ( I am sure you have seen this before, but its nice to see again ) I EDCed the Small Vines for a bit, awsome little knife.

I'm just the opposite of nyefmaker. I started with a classic, moved to all regulars, and have finally come back to classics with inserts as being the most comfortable for me. The classics open and close more easily for me, and there's not enough difference in blade shapes to matter to me.

If it were a matter of plain classic vs. plain regular, I'd stick with the regular. The inserts are just wide enough to make all the difference to me in grippiness and comfort during use.

+1

Like Dale I was a classic guy all the way, then scored a few regulars. Thought I liked the regular better... Then a 21 was calling me, so after holding one for the first time in a couple years, I liked it better than regulars.

Then when I played with Dale's small woodie 21... I found out I now like the small in inlaid 21 better than the regulars.

Both are great, but I feel the inlaid 21s have better ergos in both sizes.

Lol... funny... we have a vote for the regular, a vote for the classic and a vote for the 21. Perfect. :) I guess these things always come down to one's experience and personal preferences. I was afraid of that. ;) Seems like whichever I select... I can hardly go wrong. Thanks for the posts.

I really like the blade on the regular, but couldn't get used to the scallops. I ended up with a 21.

The scallops? Why?, if you don't mind my asking... They would appear to enhance the feel of the knife 'in hand'. What about them are off-putting to you?
Thanks. -Rob

I used to prefer the Classic, until the 21 came out. The 21 is my favorite. I own 4 Sebbies; 2 Classics, 1 Regular, and 1 21.

Well, when gripping the knife hard they dug into my hand. Wasn't painful, but was enough to make it uncomfortable.

My favorite is the 21.

BUT if you can find a classic--it is almost as comfortable and becoming much more difficult to come by.

And the Regular isn't bad and again, they are discontinued, so it would be a good time to pick them up.

I know when the 21s came out, all the others started disappearing from my site. I think they are all gone now. :(
