Do not place an order if when I contact you to let you know it`s going to be starting you don`t reply back! If this trend continues, I will be taking non refundable deposits. I order my steel for the month at one time to save shipping costs, same with handle materials. When I say I`m operating on a tight budget, I`m not kidding. In all reality, JK Knives may not be operating after January, so please be considerate.

Rant mode off.

C'mon John ya can't do that to us buddy, get us all hooked on your knives then do a bunk !!!!!!

I can understand your frustration with the orders though, you are one of the most prompt, easy to work with makers out there and it is only fair that you get treated the same in return !!!

I agree with Pit 110%. Dealing with you has been a joy. I am saddened by this post. I cannot imagine the frustration that comes with this hobby/job. Let alone knowing how I am going to pay for next months supplies.

I understand the frustration of this John.
People shouldn't order if they aren't going to buy.
I'd hire you private seeing your work firsthand now.

C'mon fellas - if you order a blade then follow through with it. These makers aren't made of money or steel :)

This is rough to hear. Unless there's a significant extenuating circumstance, it's simply bad form to order a work of custom blade art only to cancel at a later date. I would feel awful if I put a maker in that kind of situation - especially John. I run into this sort of last-minute change-of-heart in my line of work all the time, and it never stops being frustrating.

I hope people come to their senses.

All the best,

- Mike

 NO JK after Jan. !!!! HolyCow...I just got my first JK & maybe my last :(
Please guys... Help John out & pay for what you order  ! What if you had already paid for a knife from JK & you never received the blade  You would be really upset & talk about him like a dog ! I've never seen JK post a negative thing about anyone here. Do the right thing & PAY the man ! :)

Let's not jump to conclusions. Could be that the concerned party is out of town or doesn't have e-mail access at the moment.

I understand JK's frustration and I sympathize, but it may be an innocent mistake.

By the way...uh...what was the order?

True...I guess we should not be to quick to judge :o You never know what might be going on! & Yeah John which model is it...any pics ? You might make a quick sale :D

Man, that sucks, John!
I feel that, out of all the knifemakers I have ever worked with, you have been the easiest to get in touch with/ communicate with.
One of the reasons I like working with you!

Maybe all four of them are together? One out of five replied back, not a good ratio! Thankfully these are not completed, just bought the materials.

Let`s just hope things get better, and it`s not all over in January. I`m open to any suggestions on how to increase sales. The ad in Backwoodsman got me one sale of $150, not too good for a $400 investment. There is only one local knifeshow, and that`s in September, and I really can`t afford travel expenses for other shows.

If you have a card or something I'd be happy drop it off at a local bait shop near my house. There are lot of hunters and fisherman in the area and not really any custom knife makers around here. I'm sure it won't make you a millionaire or anything but if putting your card on the bulletin board drums up a sale or too it would be worth it. If you want - just through one or two in the box when you are all finished up with the best knife you will ever make - mine :):):)

John - Just a couple thoughts for what they're worth.

Don't know how anyone else feels, but I have no issue with paying a small deposit...refundable until work begins on that particular knife. The down side is that if there's any delay in work the tables can really turn and buyers can get pretty testy about not getting the product on time. I've seen it happen.

If you have x number of slots available for a month, and a few open up, post that you have some openings and what material is available. Maybe you'll get some bites.

Not making excuses for other because I don't know the circumstances...but sometimes there are valid reasons why people wouldn't answer email right away. When I went on vacation for two weeks I emailed you a heads up that if you finish my knife, and I don't respond to email, don't worry about it because I'll be back in town shortly. Everything was cool. Some might not realize that it's important to keep you informed.

Perhaps a video of several of your standard models in-use, thrown on youtube, would generate some business. I'm sure more than a few folks here have several of your standard models and decent video editing capabilities. If not, send me one of each and I'll do it myself. :)

Yeah John, just like myright said, business cards would be good. I know the owners of a few shops here in town that would gladly put your card on their counters.

Advertise 'Ol Bud...get your name out there ! Put a couple on E-Bay .... Send a couple of Business cards out to your current customers & let them place them in their local sporting good stores ! Send me a couple of your cards & I'll put them up for you ! Someone already said a YouTube commercial, that would be good !

As it was already said, Facebook is a good way and free. As soon as I get my act together I was planning on ordering some knives from you.

Facebook is a good idea. I'm on once a day. It's pretty active. You'll end up networking with everyones friend list.
