I was told to spray Pledge furniture polish on my carbon steel blades and let it set for about one hour them buff it off. The person that told me said he has carbon steel blades in his store that have been in a display case for a couple of years and have never been re done ! Has anyone ever used pledge or heard of this?

Thanks
Randy

i heard of using rain-x for blades being touched alot, like at a show. great auto wax is what i use...meguires' #20 sealer, followed by #26 pro yellow paste wax.

it might but i wouldn't know 'cause if i got some crud on it i'd wash it off
a.s.a.p.! it's like seagull sh*t on your corvettes' paint...washoff asap.

I kind of doubt the Pledge is the ideal product .... something made for wood furniture probably isn't going to be as good as something made for the purpose of protecting steel.

I think it was fulloflead (?) here on these forums who recently did a great review of rust preventatives, Break-Free CLP proved very effective in his tests as in other tests I've read.

If I remember correctly, the winner of FOL's experiments was essentially TUF-cloth marine.

I would imagine a regular car wax would be working quite well, aswell.

I doubt that Rain-X is ideal. I don't have a bottle to check, but AFAIK rain-x contains silane groups which bond to the silane termination of glass. That chemistry is not possible with steel. I wouldn't be surpised if it would give some protection, but it will rub off pretty quickly and won't last nearly as long a on the windshield of a car.

off the subject of knives, but pledge works great for clearing up scratched Lexan and plexiglass- used in boat and airplane windshields for it's shatter resistance.
