What is the smallest, lightest option for a tool with both? I'm looking for something to go with a Voyager lite, which has pretty much everything else I ever use for edc. I would prefer diamond because it lets me sharpen knives, I almost never use the metal file on multis.

I've carried a full size leatherman in the left pocket and a one handed folder in the right for six years, and would like to try something lighter for when I'm not in jeans. Sometimes I don't want to carry my bulky keychain with the photon light, wear a watch, and especially drop the new wave in my pocket.

I'm not aware of anyone but Leatherman that offers diamond-coated files. The smallest would be the PST II, my current EDC. It is full-size but it is also light and slim; 5.3 oz.. It is considerably easier to carry than the New Wave (which I carry at work). The Juice KF4 also has both but is actually a bit heavier (and shorter). Nice avatar btw.

thanks :)

My first Lman was a PSTII, I also bought a XE6 for a friend, I'm actually looking for something more keychain sized. I really don't mind the weight of the New Wave, except when I wear sweats or slacks. I think I may forget about the diamond file and get either a Squirt P4 or a Crossgrip.

Gerber also offers the diamond file on a fisherman model but I doubt that's going to suit your needs for something small/light either.

I think the PST II is your best bet, of the kf4 which can be had pretty cheap if you look around

Has anyone worn out the diamond file on a New Wave? I got one pretty recently and I'm curious as to how long I can expect it to last if used for sharpening knives. Thanks for any comments, I searched for a diamond file review, but didn't find any threads that jumped out at me.

I wonder if the diamond dust can break off, though. I never use mine (on metal) aggressively, though, for that reason. I use the coarse side for anything but fine smoothing - when I use the diamond side I use light, controlled strokes. The biggest problem I have with mine is keeping them clean - they get clogged easily. The best way I've found to clean them is to rinse them, but them dry them with patting - leaving them out to dry has resulted in rusting before.

The P4's file does have two cuts but neither is suitable for sharpening IMO. But if it gets you buy that would save you a lot of space.
