I'm looking at getting a pair of pliers for my hiking gear. What I want is a high quality set of needle nose pliers that have the same grip shape as leathermans. Do those exist? Looking at small ones, say 6 inch or so.

I don't like multitools so looking to supplement my SAK Farmer with the only thing I miss from the leatherman.

Search for needlenose pliers by Knipex and Klein. SK Facom, if still available. You'll get tons of choices by googling the first two.

Klein would be my choice

Consider needle nose vise grips, they're very handy for all kinds of tasks.

Great suggestion. I'm gonna throw a pair in my bag now. Though not as precise as regular needle nose pliers they are more practical. Locked, they're like a third hand. They're superior when it comes to nuts and bolts, have a slimmer profile and can be locked closed.

way back when I was a Scout, a neighbor (retired machinist) gave me a pair of pliers that he had modified, by grinding a flat blade screwdriver point to one handle, and cut a Phillips head into the other... ahead of his time

If you get the ViseGrips needle nose be sure you get the model with the WIRE CUTTER jaw. While that may be the standard now, wasn't when I bought my first couple of pair..can do a lot with that feature.

i have been looking for pliers that match the leatherman head for a while now and the closest i have seen are those vice grips with the wire cutter. the trick is having the standard plier head with needle nose tips... it's easy to find standard stubby head pliers with wire cutters and standard needle nose tips with wire cutters.

If you've got $300 to $400 bouncing around in your pocket, get a pair of Van Staals. :D

Titanium, lightweight, corrosion resistant, and come in 5", 6", and 7". A nice leather sheath too! :p

Otherwise, go get a set of Kleins at The Home Despot. They're usually in the electrical section.

I have simple pliers that I bought at a hardware store. They work great, but if I want to carry light weight pliers, I mostly take the Leatherman Kick with me. Very simple and good pliers.
