plow steel question

I'm always looking for usable blade steel and I found a local steel vendor that sells plow steel, and it's not cable. The guy at the counter wasn't very knowledgeable about it, so I could use any input on what "plow steel" means
when it is used in reference to stock one would buy from a typical steel vendor (they don't cary any other high carbon or tool steel). Is it the same steel that wire rope is made of?
Thanks!

I found the following definitions on the Internet a while ago:

Extra Extra Improved Plow Steel = 1095
Xtra Improved Plow Steel = 1084
Improved Plow Steel = 1070
Plow Steel = 1060

No guarantees,

I used some 1060 AKA Plow steel, to make a very large copy of a 1/2" thick Bowie. It did not take as nice a finish as 1095, but made a very usable blade. If it's local and the price is right, try some!
