What do you feel is the number one gimmick, method, makers use to sell knives?Does this selling point seem silly or is it rational? What need has to be created to sell you a knife? Are the sellers ploys working?

To make everything seem to be used by an elite military group IE: this knife is carried by the Navy SEALS

It's 'tactical'! 'Tactical' drives me nutzo.
My mother had 'tactical' knuckles and could make very large, combat hardened men flee for their lives.

What the hell is 'tactical'?

Y'know... I think I'm going to start selling 'tactical' shoelaces.

This is a limited production knife.
This knife is to honor ----------
This knife comes with a certificate of authenticity
This is the only knife like it in the world.

With some ads it seems like the manufacturer is implying the knife can do everything. Now, we know a knife in a knowledgeable person's hands can indeed do a lot, but still not everything. At least, that's the feeling I get seeing some ads.

Cutting the toes off boots stuffed with meat and recording a video of it. Good for a laugh but turns me away from the company.

If it's used by the central figure of any movie, it can be a huge selling point. The last Rambo knife, which was pretty crude, still sold. I don't think the public at large was aware of the Tracker knife before the movie, the name of which escapes me. Oh and the Italian switchblade was helped a lot by the movie 12 Angry Men.
