Wanted to get some input from you all on this. Found a small Plum made Hatchet and I believe an original Plum scabbard in a small antique shop outside of San Antonio. It wasn't priced and when they contacted the seller of it they wanted $40 for it. I wish I had taken a picture to post it but overall it seems to be in good to excellent condition with a good sharp (potentially never used) edge. The handle appears to have darkened from its possibly original color but didn't notice any cracking or damage to it. I believe its around 12-14" overall and maybe one of the Boy Scout models. Any input would be highly appreciated. I seen some varied models on ebay but don't believe this one had the small notch on the bottom of the head. I'm looking for a nice smaller sized hatchet to pack in my hunting pack and believe this one may be just the right choice. We have to travel back by this store in a couple days when we head back to Kansas and strongly considering to pick it up but wanted to see what any of you may think of Plum Hatchets and their value and performance. Thanks!

Seems a bit high but I'm not sure of the value. Plumb's are good hatchets though and any kind of leather sheath would be $10 to buy probably.

I agree with Halfaxe. That price is a bit high even for an antique store. Not unreasonable if it's in really minty fresh condition. Plumbs have good steel and great form.

Amazing that a top drawer item has so little value and yet 1000s of Yuppies and Gen Xs won't blink an eye to spend $100s on fashionable new and import versions.

I use a plumb scout hatchet and love it. great steel and holds a great edge. I only paid $6 for the head and another $6 for a handle. At $40, guess it depends on how much value you place on the sheath & original handle.

I agree. And at $40 bucks this is a better value than those. But I believe those others offer poor value. And I know there are better values than this to be found. It's all relative.

Thanks for all of the input guys. Was a bit bummed however as I sent them an email (store's email) days before I was to travel back by the shop, never got a response other than an automated one but had a pesons personal email attached so I still personally responded to that one as well stating "much appreciated" and "standing by" as I was trying to get it in the $30-$35 range with taxes (shoot I was still probably planning to take it for $40 if they could work the tax into it). Also tried calling them for a couple hours in the morning (this past Monday) but the phone just rang with no voice mail available. Suppose it wasn't meant to be, that or the business needs to learn how to return emails or pick up thye phone. My luck is that they took the week off for Christmas, whyo knows.
