I saw this axe on Etsy and I thought I would see what you all think. What is the reason behind the two piece design? It can't be economy because the labor seems like it would add too much to the price. The seller says to cut down on weight but I can't imagine that a single piece axe couldn't be made lighter. I could be wrong about both counts, it could be cheaper to hang heads riveting them together at the same time you add the haft. I have no idea but I'm curious and y'all know more than anyone I know about this stuff. I have no interest in the sale of this thing so I hope it is ok to post, if not take my apologies up front.

There's a reference to the Plumb Utility Axe 1 1-720
in a Hardware Retailing magazine from 1979.

My guess is that this design is all about cheapening the materials and production process; using stamped sheet steel for the wrap around the haft, and bar stock for the bit portion.

Zero poll + Flat cheeks + Riveted connection = No thanks, not for me.

All I can think of is if you could remove the bit and swap it out with another sort of tool/ blade but it certainly does not look like the bit was designed to be removed by the casual user.

That sums it up pretty good.

If you were trying to put together a complete kit with the shovel and saw for your collection and needed the axe then it might make sense to get one.
